Just for fun... The 4 main soaps should do a reality show... In which...

Internet posters (those who use forums, comment sections on media websites etc) can act out a scene and show us just how fantastic they are compared to those they endlessly class as wooden, amongst all the other names thrown about by the amazingly talented, over opinionated twerps I so often find myself reading comments from.

Phone lines would then open at the end of the show for all these 'amazingly talented, over opinionated twerps' to be judged with a live feed from voters featured online so contestants can see the horrid things said about them.

No doubt many would try out for the suggested show seeing as, based on what some post, clearly indicates they can do a much better job!

Anyone else up for this?

We may even find ourselves some brilliant, fresh, new actors/actresses as a result. <--- This actually being a genuine comment amid the sarcasm of my thread

I've never understood the 'don't criticize if you can't do better' opinion

I'm not a professional footballer, that doesn't mean I'm not qualified to decide who I think played well or didn't play well. Same thing applies to actors.

Whilst we're on this topic though, am I imagining that there was a family in Brookside that auditioned reality-style and were 'chosen' from loads of contestants?

I'm not aware of the Brookside one but Hollyoaks used to do a search for new cast members called "Hollyoaks: On the Pull" several years ago, I believe some of it was televised, I didn't see it but remember reading a lot about it at the time.

I actually think a reality show where the winner wins a role in one of the big soaps would make great TV, more interesting than X Factor or BGT in my opinion. Watching people who want to be pop stars got dull a long time ago. I also like the idea of what the OP sarcastically suggested where aspiring writers/producers have their ideas showcased, having current actors act out their chosen scenes and the winner gets the chance to write for a soap. Someone make it happen!

T'was the 'soapstars' family in Emmerdale - they were awful, and mercifully short-lived.

For a bit of fun, Emmerdale did once - as part of a This Morning slot - act out famous scenes from the show using other actors: I remember Tony Audenshaw (Bob) playing Natasha in the famous Mark-Wylde-gets-shot-in-the-woods scene: he was *very* funny!

Bib not quite what I suggested but an absolutely brilliant idea. My suggestion was to maybe find fresh, decent actors/actresses from such a reality show but if we could land ourselves with some incredible storyline writers too.... It's a win win situation all round.

I suggest we patent this idea before some 'Cowell' like person latches on and makes this kind of Tv show a reality.

So... my reality show will be called... Hollydale East Street ...

We'll have an auditions round, in which aspiring actors/actresses/writers come on stage and solo act out a dialogue. We'll then go to battle rounds where 2 contestants, whose ideas have been integrated to form one scene go head to head (we'll then be able to see how 2 minds can come together to form a storyline). Following this we'll have boot camp, categories of differing drama in one massive mix up. Then on to the live shows, which will be like one big theatre production, under the spotlight, live audience, judging panel etc etc... Outcomes which truly remain to be seen. We'll see who is truly worthy, eventually ending up with a fantastically fresh new actor/actress which all the 4 main soaps bid for, or an epic writer/storyliner who will be the envy of whichever soap grabs them.

Possibilities are endless, audience levels could be MASSIVE, phoneline vote profits astronomical (maybe).

a) You don't have to be able to do something to be able to pass comment and judge it.

I'm no singer but I know when someone can sing and someone can't. In the case of actors, the viewer a good judge as it's the actors job to make the story/character believable for the audience. If they're not doing that, they're failing.

b) They put themselves in the public eye, therefore the public will comment on and decide whether they like something or not.
Just like a chef opens himself up to be judged by the consumers who eat their food.

Can't stand the heat? Get out of the kitchen.

The old "if you can't do something yourself, you can't criticise anybody else's efforts" shtick is trite and banal. Some people don't like some actors' performances - just like some people don't like some singers' voices; some artists' artwork; some writers' prose. And they have every right to say it, whether they could do better or not. Deal with it.
