Nigel Harman spoke fondly of Letitia Dean and June Brown when he was in EastEnders as Dennis Rickman.

He said "Working with June Brown was fantastic - she taught me a lot of things I still even use now. June is a legend".

Nigel thinks just highly as his onscreen-wife Sharon, played by Letitia Dean. "Tish is a fantastic actor and bloody great to work with. When you consider we spent nearly every day together for two and a half years, then I'm incredibly grateful and lucky to have had her as my partner for the time I was in the show"

I loved Dennis but given the hatchet job they've done on Sharon it's just as well he can't come back. I agree with him about Letitia and June. I can't imagine EastEnders without their contributions to its golden eras. 1985 to 2005 EastEnders will never be beaten.

It's a terrible shame he was killed off Sharon may have stood a chance otherwise. EE's ruination of the character is totally unforgivable.

Dennis would be frustrated with Sharon if he was still alive. Shame he's dead . Dennis would definitely punish Denny.

But then Sharon would act slightly differently probably with Dennis around.

I think people are being unfair to the writers regarding the way Sharon is as a mother. She is raising Dennis the way den raised her - I think it is perfectly in character for her to have a blinkered view of her son; in fact long before she returned it was a facet I (and others) thought she would have. Den indulged, spoilt, and never disciplined Sharon - it was Angie who did the disciplining; she is raising Dennis the way she was raised. Over-protective is a by-word for the watts.

The problem lies not with this aspect of her characterisation but with the lack of her intergration into the wider square (which makes her come off unsympathetically); and frankly the non-very-subtle characterisation of Dennis. Under better writers, Dennis behaviour would be more coloured and he as a character would be more fleshed out; even though he would still possess most of his current characteristics. These IMO are not a problem; they are obviously looking at Dennis and thinking "little den". The problem is they are not adding any further elements to his character to make him more rounded (admittedly not that easy a task for a child).

Sharon parenting is not criminal (despite the way it is portrayed by some Posters on here). Her parenting style is perfectly in keeping with her watts heritage. What is lacking is that this is ALL there is to her + her son is being represented in a very bad light with no shades of grey. This, combined with her isolation, is creating a negative portrayal.

The good thing is it is a fairly easy problem to solve - it just needs a bit of good and subtle writing.
