Don't ask me how it happened, I trusted someone who claimed they knew what they were doing!

All of the icons are missing when I turn on my IPod (calendar, Photos, Maps Settings etc etc, the whole shooting match).

When I turn it on now it all I get is the Apple logo and a bland icon screen

Any idea how can I restore all of the icons?
