Fiona marked too low
Geeny

Yes, maybe not her dance, Rumba is a nightmare for most but she tried. Why mark silly crowd pleasing peoples disco antics higher?

Fiona was terrible. It looked like she was ready to fall over. By far the worst of the night, including the god awful Julian.

She was lucky to get 22 for that unholy mess.

I'm afraid she and Anton were lucky not to be placed in the Bottom 2 and therefore the Dance off, as it was my worst performance of the night. Disappointingly so, as I've thought Fiona can dance, but the pro, on this occasion, badly let his partner down. That was truly shocking. Why spin a middleaged woman around the floor and then expect her to get up elegantly? His choreo was truly awful, and frankly, incompetent. Fiona didn't stand a chance with that music and routine. I do believe she can dance, if given half a chance, and her memory holds.

The rumba is generally considered harder for male celebs - but even then there are a few that have produced outstanding rumbas - Colin Jackson being an example, one which I sadly never got to see and Matt D'Angelo which fortunately I did. Even this series I'd say Ben Cohen while not brilliant did a very decent one and I'd say Matt Baker and Chris Hollins also did very decent ones.

For female celebs there are quite a few more examples of outstanding ones - Cherie Lunghie, Kara Tointon, Rachel Stevens, Kelly Brook and others who made a decent fist of it.

You don't need to be a dance expert to know that Fiona messed up, not helped by poor choreography and inappropriate song choice and 'the rumba is a hard dance' argument doesn't really hold up.

Fiona dance was dreadful, as I've said on another thread, it was a parody of a rumba, but it wasn't her fault.

Anton hates Latin, and as such also treats it with a contempt that is a disgrace. He can't do it, therefore he can't teach it, therefore when he has a celeb with any potential he lets them down entirely. Time for him to go.

She was lucky to get the score she did. It was horrific. She stumbled and tripped and forget her way through the whole routine. It also wasn't well choreographed by Anton.

If you're one of the average ones, you're going to be marked up for dancing it well, regardless of how much dance content it contains.

If you're one of the really good ones, you're held to a higher standard.

100% spot on! Do you remember Kate Garroway's Salsa it was a sort of Hokey Cokey with Latin influences

Very true. But in fairness, an awful lot of the others were over-marked so it looked worse.

Utter rubbish! The choreography was fine, and whilst, yes, it's harder for someone of Fiona's age to get up gracefully, she was doing perfectly adequately (not great, but certainly not the worst of the night at that point) until the end of the routine, which was basic Rumba steps where she stumbled, got it wrong, and never got it back. Some people will leap on Anton at the slightest opportunity. Take the tinted specs off, it wasn't his fault Fiona forgot the routine!

Now that rant's out of the way- I don't think it was a case of Fiona getting umdermarked, just other couples getting overmarked. I think 22 was probably about right for that routine (Probably worth 5s, so 4 and 6s balances)

Actually she went wrong at least twice before the glaringly obvious one. At one point Anton almost trips over.

I do blame him for the choreo. You admit she didn't get up from the spins too gracefully. Why put it in then ? OK if you have a lithe young sportswoman with abs of steel, but nowhere near suitable for a woman of 57 with a weak core and balance issues at the best of times.

I think his imagination has run dry.

Did he ever have any imagination in Latin?

What an incredibly rude and nasty post directed at me!
Was that really necessary?

For your information, I'd been enjoying Fiona's dancing up to Saturday, but that routine was a total shambles, mostly due to Anton's choreography and music choice. If you wish to disagree, that's what a forum is for, but do shut up about "tinted specs" (I'm not wearing any) but you seem to be apparently.
And I would describe your post exactly as you described mine, but I'm far too polite!
Christ. Some people on this forum need to take a chill pill asap.
