If you look at what they are charging for iPhones with 4" screens I dread to think what one with a 5" screen is going to cost. Nice to see Apple innovating though. Just watch all the Android manufacturers follow with bigger screens now

If true, these are just more reactionary measures from Apple. Releasing such a device would be a clear indicator that they've lost control of consumers and are taking wild stabs in any direction in an attempt to entice consumers back.

So much for customers not needing bigger screens, then.

I think Apple will have to give in to customer demand sooner or later.
Personally,i think the current size is just about right to operate in one hand where most of the lastest androids are like bricks that you need two hands to use.Hopefully the rumoured Sony z1S will start a trend for smaller but powerful handsets.

They could easily have a larger screen if they cut down that flipping bezel. I mean just look at the space above and below the iPhone 4 and 5.

The smart money would be on a 4.3" screen, maybe even the exact same one used in the HTC One Mini.
That must correspond to a near same increase from 3.5" 3:2 aspect ration to the current 4" 16:9 screen.

I think they want to keep tablets for tablet software only, so if tablets are now post peak, then we may well get a 6" + Ipad phone, Galaxy Note like.

Reactionary it would be the slowest reaction ever witnessed.

It would be a logical step and for those wanting a bigger screen, it would be a logical step.

There's definitely a demand for larger screens. I know I was strongly considering getting a phabet myself. It's the direction most smartphones have gone in. How is this 'a wild stab in any direction'? Especially when they already increased it slightly last year. It's a logical step to have a bigger screen to make full use of improved specs. IMHO it's a given that the next iPhone flagship will have a bigger screen. They traditionally change the look/housing alternate years anyway. But I suspect it won't be that much bigger.

If true they must have found a way to overcome all those "trade offs" TC listed with larger screens. This is good news for the mobile industry now then no more "trade offs" with large screens.

Just a shame no one will buy one, as one handed use is so important to apple customers.

Exactly, the only explanation is they haven't got been able to source an acceptable screen and hardware yet, other wise they would have released this year.

Apple have certainly lost customers because of this and they know it.

It is reactionary. They've been hedging their bets for the time being, but it would still be a reaction as a direct result of the meteoric success other ecosystems are seeing with larger display wielding devices.

Apple's excuse was that large displays have "too many trade-offs", so unless they've found some miraculous solution to these so called "trade-offs", it's going to look extremely hypocritical on their part.

Interesting description of hedging their bets by producing the best selling phone

Anyhow, I do agree that they said they wouldn't release a larger screen unless it met the level of quality they where happy with.

Unless screen technology has suddenly stop developing, I cannot see why this should not be possible.

To be honest I think this is just marketing mumbo jumbo from Apple. They know they need a bigger screen phone.

If this is true, they're going to have to deal with the issue of non-scaleable apps before they introduce a bugger screen. I still have apps that have never been updated to fit the screen of the iPhone 5.

Having done some iOS development it's usually quite easy to deal with.

Some developers are just a bit lazy I guess. It will probably be a bit like when you run iPhone apps on an iPad but with a smaller magnification needed.
