I've wondered this. Generally, actors are small, rowdy and bandy legged little fellows. But on TV, everyone looks bigger. So, take Eileen from Corrie. She looks like a huge woman on Corrie. But Sue Cleaver is only 5'9, a very average size. So do you think that the character of Eileen is meant to be that size and most of the others are very short, or do you think that Eileen is meant to be a larger person than Sue Cleaver?

ONLY 5'9???!!
that is actually very tall for a woman!!

i would imagine that characters are intended to be exactly the same size as the person playing them.......

*rolls eyes*

Only 5ft 9? being that height myself I'd say that was quite tall for a woman as mentioned above. Sometimes if maybe the male is shorter than the female they could possibly try and make them seem taller? (standing on little raised areas that sort of thing) I'm not entirely sure.

A very interesting question, I'm constantly castigated by members of the public for being slimmer, taller, and better looking than I appear on television which seems to get people excited and annoyed in equal measure. I can't explain it, but I thought you might find my personal experience useful.

I've often wondered the same... its possibly a way for actors to look different to their real life if that makes sense

It must be true. I have been on blind dates and told I'm thinner in real life than in the photos they seen. SWOON at that flattery!!

5'9 is average for a woman? For a man that it is average, but for a woman that is tall.

I don't think it's intentional but Bronagh Waugh (Cheryl Brady) ex member of HO looked quite large as Cheryl, especially next to the size 4 female cast members, but put her next to the average women (size 10-14) she looks very slim (I read somewhere she was a size 10/12) again I don't think it's intentional, but when your working with tiny tiny women you look fat witch she definitely is not. You then factor in the fact she's 5ft 10 and the women just looks huge. Bless her.
