Aww it's lovely to hear him being so nice about Eastenders. I really don't want Michael to leave. He talks a lot about how

He seems so cool. He is very eloquent and humble.
I like how he referred to all the shitty exits in a pleasant way as well. "Not everyone gets a good exit". |

I know actors are always protective of their characters but I do not agree with him at all about Michael/Janine. I wouldn't say Janine is any more "ghastly" than he is, for both characters the cold/nastiness and manipulation is just for show imo, deep down they're both incredibly lonely and lost. Which is why I felt they worked so well together but conversely it's also why their relationship has destructed in the way it has.

Talented actor, great character, nice bloke. Until Dominic's changes take effect the show will be unwatchable without him.

How lucky were they to have him, over the past year in particular? He's been immense, and the writers have really responded to the character he created. He's been the only element worth watching, in so many episodes, little as he's been given to do. if only they'd placed him at the heart of the show, coming into contact with more people. And such a shame about his family.

It's interesting that the actor essentially crafted the character we know as Michael. The lazy scriptwriters would have kept him as the womanizing jack the lad character he initially started out as if it hadn't been for the actor's imput. They really have no imagination whatsoever.

The man is capable of turning the most shitty scripted dialogue into TV gold .
I haven't read the article to avoid any spoilers , but surely he should win some awards . Superb . |

It's pretty obvious from his vocabulary in that interview that he ad libs a lot of Michael's best lines.

Tptb made a big mistake by not using him more, instead they were obsessing over the recycled drivel Max/Tanya, who did Kat and cousins in 'love' there was soo much more they could have done with him. He was hardly on screen during Charlies break, and even when she returned it was months of playing games only now has it got interesting. SJS made Michael memorable, he could make a dull ep less dull with just a facial expression. |

Sad really that they didn't really utilise the character for those three short years. The six months Janine was away we had Derek. Tanya, Kirsty, Ava, Kat and Alfie pap whilst he sat in the background.
Even this final storyline has had little inspiration and only gotten good in these final couple of weeks. They care less about crafting solid story lines and more about thinking up scenarios/interactions to fill the countless episodes and stick them on repeat. |

Great interview. I love how humble he comes across. He certainly is deserving of a memorable exit, having created - for me, one of EE's most memorable characters.

You could tell from the beginning it was he taking hold of the character. Writers think in cliches and it was obvious that it was a simple wide boy which didn't work with SJS
It was always the writers running to catch up with SJS/MM not the other way around. He created the only legendary EE character we have had in years. |

Loved Michael such a shame he is leaving. They could have done so much more with the character.
