But the video is blocked on YouTube.
![]() I think it's an ok song, but I'm not sure how it would fair as a full single. She should have left it as a promotional release. |

Nah I think releasing Do What U Want as an actual single makes brilliant sense. Although its got that very obvious pop Gaga style too it, It will also appeal too the masses and not just her fans because of the R'n'B element. |

yeah i think it will probably bring in more casual fans that she's most likely lost over the past couple of years! however her bringing them in won't necessarily keep them in! she will have to follow it up, im sure i will love it though!

erm, it seems like crisis management is at play here and what happened to her not making music for the charts? hasn't she already filmed the next video for the other single too? that aside, i do like the song and its better than "applause" in my opinion, so i am not surprised initial sales have been strong.
i think the general public are happy for gaga to well, if she delivers the goods musically. |

So much for not caring about sales and yet here she is changing tactics because this has proven to be popular. It just proves how full of **** she is. A pity it fell from the top spot moments after it was announced.

However, still feels like a knee-jerk reaction to suddenly push this to second single status. I mean Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" also instantly smashed the iTunes WW chart but fell away again rather quickly |

That's exactly what I just said. I mean, Is this how a "real" artist is supposed to operate? By putting their finger to the wind, and quickly releasing whatever sticks? I thought artists were supposed to go with their gut instict no matter what the public response was to their work.

It's stayed at #1 in the USA for almost two days now. It will inevitably fall soon (probably tonight) because it has had no promo and it's only just been sent to radio stations but the early signs are all positive, it just won the poll for this week's most loved track on the Radio 1 review show, for example. The release is very messy considering Venus was planned and all that but I'm confident that this will perform much better than Venus would have done. |

With respect to the song itself, I am delighted that Do What U Want has been promoted to the second single. I actually squealed a little when I read the news. It sounds great, has received critical acclaim, shows a different side to Gaga and can (hopefully) appeal to those with electronic, R&B and Pop tastes.
I wasn't particularly feeling what I'd heard about about Venus either, with its trite lyrics and presumably a similar DJWS sound to Applause, which didn't set the charts alight the first time around. Regarding further promotional singles, she should put an end to them but will not as she will undoubtedly feel that the fans want them now. Just as long as she doesn't go performing Venus on X Factor or some such craziness, though I would not put it past Gaga to do so. For Sunday night's X Factor, I think it should be a DWUW only performance, really showcase the song. A nice, simple, impromptu Gaga/ R.Kelly (schedule permitting) performance might just do this the trick (her last X Factor performance was probably one of her absolute worst, just gimmicky and pointless) to impress the general public. A nice simple video à la Beyoncé 1+1, perhaps with a sultry bed and some thong action ( ) plus R. Kelly, shot in a London studio over the weekend and dispatched online as soon as possible would be ideal also.

This was very clearly Interscope's decision, not Gaga's.

Her detractors were right when they said her fans would say it all Interscopes decision. If she was such an artist she would fight tooth and nail for whatever single she wanted next. Puppet and string springs to mind.
you are a man/woman obsessed. this is not normal behavior closet gaga fan screaming to get out? |

It really does, and the kind of mid-tempo r&b thing that would have been big around 15 years ago. I'm really surprised it has been doing that well.
However, still feels like a knee-jerk reaction to suddenly push this to second single status. I mean Katy Perry's "Walking On Air" also instantly smashed the iTunes WW chart but fell away again rather quickly If this sounds like it would have been good 15 years ago, does that mean Gaga is somehow ahead of the curve by 5 years?

this is all rather confusing. If this is now OFFICIALLY the second single then she should perform this on Sunday with R.Kelly (If he is available) then it will give the song some more recognition and longevity! |

So Applause wasn't going to be the first single...but it was - thanks to Jimmy Lovine. Swine was cancelled as the second single. Then Venus was going to take it's place, but that got binned, and now the R. Kelly track is becoming the 2nd single so they are going to rush release a video for it
This era just gets worse and worse.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're a tad nervous that they miscalculated the second single considering DWUW is really striking a chord and presumably sounds completely different to Venus.
There's a clear vote of confidence in DWUW, and I don't really think they're in a position to turn their noses up at that. They want people to tune back into Radio Gaga, and this is doing the job. I highly doubt Interscope solely made these decisions. Gaga isn't stupid, and this is still her song. A win is a win. |

When it comes down too it, she has too sell for the record label. She might not care, but the record label sure does. It makes sense too make this the next single. And if you think about it, It's because people were buying it that it's going too be the second single so cleary its doing well. |

In terms of Xfactor performance... as R.Kelly's part is quite large, she could perform both songs? Maybe perform 2 mins of Venus then the rest DWUW?
