iphone Weather Location Issue.
When i first got my iphone in May, my phone would display my accurate location on the weather app. After the last few updates on ios6, my weather location disappeared and changed to 'London'. Location settings are still on.
Recently with ios7, i found my exact location manually by typing it in the search bar and adding it to the list of locations. Yesterday, the manual addition of my exact location changes to 'London' and now when searching for it in the search bar just says 'London (United Kingdom)' Is this a GPS issue near by or a bug with the weather app? |

Could be that you don't have "location services" enabled. Either globally or for the Weather App.

Location services are on and they're switched on for the weather app too.

If there is no decent gps lock.. it will default to the general local mast cell location (if that is broadcasting it or is even accurate) if that fails i do believe it falls back to the ip location.. which is likely to be London if O2/EE and if wifi some ISP's. However it can cross check local wifi data if it is on.. i.e. other folks SSID to get a fairly good location. However if you are in a wifi signal blocking area i.e. warehouse/new flat with tinfoil insulation or in an area that is quite new it will poop it's pants.
So i'm not sure what is happening here.. |

What's confusing me is that the first couple of weeks when i got my iphone it showed the exact location. This is my first iphone so i'm still excited about these things. Then after the last few updates for ios6, the app stopped showing the exact location when local places are switched on.
I've not moved house or flat so i don't know why this is happening and i don't go out of the area that much. |

I had the same situation on iOS 7. It gave my exact location when it came out first. Now it just shows my city and I don't know how to delete a location because I now have 3 pages showing the same location.

Strange! There ONLY should ever be one page showing "current location". There can be as many extra pages as you wish showing the weather in cities around the world!

I'm seeing the same thing. There used to be a page headed "local weather" with your exact(ish) location, plus you could add extra cities of your own choice. So when I was on holiday in France I added London so I could check the weather at home.
As a result I used to have my local page (Ealing) plus London. Now I have London plus London. However I have a third party weather app, Haze, and that shows my location as Ealing. |

I've got 3 pages showing my current location and another page showing Edinburgh for some strange reason. Do you know how to delete pages I don't want?

Tap the icon at the bottom right corner (like three lines). It opens a page with all your locations. Swipe the unwanted location to the left to reveal the delete button. Tap the button then tap on the screen again to return to the weather.

Maybe whoever provides Apples weather have changed very recently and decided that the "London weather" is what it will now return if the device says it is in Ealing!
Apple weather says it's 16 in London and predicts a low of 8. Haze says it's 15 in Ealing and predicts a low of 10. So the data must be provided by different sources, and possibly relates to slightly different locations. My Apple weather app no longer has an "i" - it's the app supplied with OS 7, the one with the icon showing a cloud and sun on a blue background. |

That's BBC Weather surely! On the Apple version you tap the "i" symbol (bottom-right) to get to the "locations" page.

I just downloaded the BBC Weather app and it's displaying the correct location. Maybe it's a yahoo thing or maybe i need to clear the cache of the weather app?

I think the apple weather app is broken. It doesn't recognize any airport locations either at present.

I'm trying out a 3 SIM at the moment to check the signal, so I have an iPhone 5s on T-Mobile and an iPhone 5 on 3.
I just brought up the weather app from the notification centre on both phones. The 5s on T-Mobile says 'South Yorkshire County'. The 5 on 3 says 'Sheffield'. I'll test it a few more times today and let you know what happens. |

It does - sort-of. If you ask it to find LAX it finds weather for Los Angeles. If you ask it to find CDG it finds weather for Mauregard (which is where Charles de Gaulle airport is). But then it thinks LHR is in Ashford, which is odd.

But a few nights ago it actually displayed London Heathrow Airport in the search results when searching for Heathrow but now it just says Ashford as you say. Something must be wrong at Yahoo's end.

Bearing in mind Apple weather says I'm in London and Haze says I'm in Ealing, I also have a weather app (Weather+ I think) on the iPad and that says I am in Richmond!
My guess is that the app knows exactly where I am (the location shown in Maps is very accurate) but the provider of the weather data simplifies locations into much larger zones. So the app tells its provider "he's exactly here" but the provider then allocates a more general location to the precise coordinates provided by the phone. |

There is something a bit wrong with it, and it seems to relate to when you're in or have been in an area with poor location finding.
For example, let's say it's still saying 'Cheshire' rather than a specific location. If you go into an app that uses GPS, like Google Maps, and get a location fix, next time you open your weather app it'll display a more specific location. This issue also happens with my Yahoo weather app, and of course that's where the data comes from. It's not new to iOS 7 either. |

iPhones sensibly try to avoid using GPS - very expensive on battery- except when they have to. The IOS API is "Location" (which can use WiFi/Cellular as well) NOT "GPS Position". For something as inaccurate as weather if it believes it knows the location to moderate accuracy that should be good enough! |
