narcissism is not reducible to personality disorder and that is only one reference of the term, a relatively recent one at that!
narcissism is gratification through self reflection. we all have traits of it, and its a component in normal healthy development leading to realistic self interest. the capacity to love others grows from the capacity to love ourselves and it is an essential part of achieving a balanced understanding of our strengths and weaknesses.
narcissistic personality disorder is an extreme, distorted and pathological form of narcissism, characterised by a grandiose overestimation of one's abilities and a need to be admired by others. it is best diagnosed by google. or by looking around the forum, come to that....
