BT YouView Box
I am told by BT that the YouView Box is unable to decrypt the BT Sport channels.
![]() A friend lives in a rural location with only 2.1mb download on BT broadband. Has 10/10 Freeview reception, BT say he won't be able to have BT Sport! He does not have SKY. Is this correct? Mikembe |

Yes. BT Sport is only available on YouView via streamed internet channels if you have a BT Infinity fibre connection. Your friend may be able to stream them to his computer free though from http://sport.bt.com , but it sounds like even that is unlikely with such a slow connection.

So how come SKY can activate a box to receive channels via satellite.
![]() So why can't BT activate their YouView boxes to decrypt BT Sport via Freeview digital terrestrial when they are connected to the internet?? ![]() ![]() Seems to me BT are all talk and not practical. ![]() Mikembe |

Because the Sky box has hardware decryption technology compatible with broadcast media built in - the YouView box doesn't.
For YouView boxes to decrypt content it has to come in via the IP service. |

It would appear BT or Humax missed an opportunity to gain more viewers.

Your friend could ask bt to replace his youview box with a bt vision box and then have bt sport via his aerial.

Apparently you can get the BT sport channels on a Youview box, but this requires you to purchase a card for the CAM slot. BT just offered this to me this morning for £10.

Bt sport on Youview is delivered via Infinity Broadband.
No cam slot on Youview box, cam slot in Bt vision box. Wonder if they're issuing a different model box or just got their information mixed up. Probably the latter but I'll see what arrives next week. |

This is curious, I was offered the choice of either box but with the extra cost of the decryption card with the Youview box.

BT Youview Box as said already does not need a card to get IPTV channels and it does have over 50 channels which are SD and HD.....
Most Iplayers are set for 2MB broadband speed, but for HD shows you need more... When BT put broadband into a home they test the speed and record it and they and you can test your phone line on the order site... Speed is down to distance from and to the fibre box and the local exchange and if you use a joint copper telephone line down your road..... The BT youview box does need to be able to load the freeview EPG to place the IPTV channels I think ? At this time BT youview box can not have SKY sport 1 & 2 but in time with a deal with sky to bring sky one, sky living and others channels they will on both BT Youview & BT vision boxes. |

I posted the following on a different thread, but will post it here also as it may be more appropriate and will get more response - hope this is OK.
"I live in a residential area less than 4 miles from the centre of Cardiff, but cannot receive infinity broadband, and there are no plans for the exchange to change within the next few years. I have a BT YouView box that works well, and am able to stream all catch-up and on-demand programmes without any problems from my existing B/B connection. Can someone explain to me why I cannot get BT Sport and the extra channels without Infinity? I accept that HD may be a problem, but if the catch-up SD programmes can stream OK, then why can't the Sport and Extra SD channels? I just get 'the computer says no' response from BT. " |

Infinity is one upgrade but in order to receive IPTV your exchange/street cabinet needs upgrading to Multicast. Normally these upgrades are done at the same time but there are situations where both have been upgraded and other with either.
So if you have neither then its a no to IPTV. Check here if they are available http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/AD...neNumberOutput |

Thanks for this info. From the link you gave (see below) it would appear that everything is available(?). Presumably I still have to wait for the exchange to be upgraded.

So no mention of FTTC, FTTP or multicast? Then you are waiting for the upgrades.
