As for mentioning "Apple" and "less control over content" in the same sentence, please don't make me laugh. They really only want you to buy content from their own controlled sources.
![]() As for the innovation, I totally concede they rarely invent (Xerox did the hard work on computer UIs, for example) but they innovate in terms of delivering a different experience to the masses in an intuitive, well designed way. That's where my praise for Apple stops, believe me. I'll never buy an Apple product because they impose rather than give the customer choice. If consumers are happy with what Apple offer, then that's lovely. Personally, I want more flexibility over software and hardware. |

Android is popular because its cheap.
As a OS its not as polished or as integrated as iOS. Theres still annoying quirks, some apps or missing features, poor tablet platform and its too fragmented Oh I have a Nexus 4 running 4.3 and a iPad running ios7 BTW. I personally find it more polished than iOS. I also have no apps missing on Android than what i used on iOS. So again, what the hell are you talking about?!! What annoying quirks do you have on your nexus 4 that you dont on your ipad running iOS? Clueless nonsense as always!! |

If Apple has won you over I'm pleased for you, OP. Hopefully you'll be very happy together and have a great future together. I'm not faithful to any brand, I'm on Android, I may have another turn with Apple, I may go for some as yet unreleased system in the future. Who knows!
If apple make bigger screen phones and change that hideous looking OS then i would give them another shot as well. |

Android will always have a market, the people who refuse to buy apple because:-...
I mean, who else could get away with selling a disposable laptop for £1,700 and not be totally condemned by everyone, media journalists included? It forever seems to be "Oh its Apple. That's all right then" |

I thought a main one was because they make non serviceable products and own you. I guess 'owning you' includes that 'no customisation.

As for "not as polished", I'm surprised you are saying this given you allegedly own a Nexus 4. That point may have stood 2/3 years ago, but not now, especially with stock Android and Project Butter. As for "missing features", get back to me when you have an equivalent to Astro File Manager on iOS, and when you get as many customisation options as there are on Android. All the "new" features Apple added in iOS7, Android has already been doing.

With things like quirks, I imagine that's down to personal preference and individual use. That someone has a different view to you, it doesn't make then clueless. Similarly with design, its entirely subjective - but I definitely prefer the more minimalist look of iOS (and yes, I'll certainly agree it takes some cues from WP). Doesn't make either of us right, and the other clueless - we'd just have different preferences. |

I really struggle to understand your posts.
The new £1700 Retina Macbook Pro got an iFixit score of 1 out of 10. Apple stuff simply ain't designed to be opened. Apple really set their stall out when they left withdrew from EPEAT rather than get kicked out. Faced with losing their biggest financial earner EPEAT persuaded them back into their fold. What gives. Did they promise to turn a blind eye on this stuff designed as future land fill? |

Oh wow at the OP. One iPhone to rule them all eh? Lol
Top end android phones I.e note 3, S4, HTC one are just as good as the iPhone. I think after that it comes down to user preference. If you held a gun to my head and made me pick I'd say I prefer the iPhone but I actually use an S4 and I like it. There are some things I prefer about iPhones, mainly it's MP3 player and ecosystem, however I can't fault my S4. I prefer to have an android phone and then use my iPad and iPod touch for media/apps. |

I've used IOS6 and Android and far prefer Android as it gives me more freedom to do what I want and IOS6 strikes me as very 'Fisher Price' in the way it looks.
Saying that the one thing I really dislike about Android is the integration of thinks like Twitter, Facebook etc as I don't use them, don't want them taking up space or draining the battery but can't get rid of them (the closest is disabling them but they're still there) but to be fair IOS is no better with some of its junk apps and add that this mania everyone seems to have with the 'Cloud'. |

Do you have to be quite so pedantic and take things quite so literally all the time? Surely it was obvious that what late8 meant was that Android is available on devices which cover a much wider range of price points, rather than just at the higher end of that scale.

It's funny how you quoted me, yet failed to quote him and say the same things to him. It's also funny why you haven't picked up on the OP and chastised him for having an opinion!!
Shows you for what you are really!!! ![]() Someone who can tell the difference between simply expressing an opinion, and telling someone else they are "clueless" and "talking rubbish" if they don't happen to share your opinion? As for the OP - no, I don't agree. Firstly its not a willy waving competition anyway, and secondly Android is always going to do better in terms of market share primarily because its available on a far wider range of devices, covering a far wider range of price points. |

In reply to the original topic, I've no plans to ditch Android. It gives me what I need and I'm not into having something because its fashionable.
I like the build of an iPhone, its sturdy. But iTunes is a pain to use and their anti-flash policy means I can't watch certain video streams. Thats the main reason why I chose Android 3 years ago and Apples decision to not officially support flash is a major boo-boo (HTML5 hasn't set the world alight yet). |

Tizen is an interesting one; its got a strange evolution, bits of this, bits of that. However isn't it supposed to be a relatively open platform? And interesting that it (as well as some other upcoming and current platforms) have plenty of support for what Nokia were once trying to push - QT.
Anyone who doesn't think this is what they are aiming for is misguided. |

I fully believe that Samsung will emulate Apple and try to create their own Samsung eco system exactly like Apple, which ties people into their phones, computers, TVs, and smart watches.Anyone who doesn't think this is what they are aiming for is misguided.
Just think, you might one day get kids growing up hardly knowing what a computer was. |

I bought and paid a lot for an apple 3gs when it was new and it was a seriously annoying piece of crap.
The fact that you have to go through Itunes on your PC to access any of your media (not to mention having to convert your videos to put them on the phone) and the inability to drag and drop your photos from the phone to your desktop is utterly unacceptable in my opinion. That and the nannying policy apple implement over their appstore (not being able to get TV Portal on an iphone sucks) means I will never have an apple phone again. I know the camera has slightly improved on an iphone5 but on the 3g it was absolutely ridiculous for the time. I really think people with iphones are either genuinely retarded or ignorant. |

No, the fact glossed right over the OP and went for mine instead. LIke i said, it shows you for what you really are on here. I think all but your few pals on here will agree.

Music downloads to obscure locations on Android which makes it hard to copy and organise music. On Google Music you cant even download physically to the phone and theres zero organization. You have to download a physical file via Google Music on a PC. Also with Andoid now - flash no longer a option. |

What do you mean "not as integrated"? Android integrates every popular social network/content site and has done for a while now, iOS only just recently added Twitter integration.
![]() Google integrates its services very well with Android. As for "not as polished", I'm surprised you are saying this given you allegedly own a Nexus 4. All the "new" features Apple added in iOS7, Android has already been doing. ![]() Couldnt even play Ultra Violet on my Nexus becuase the feature or app isnt available !! - no problem on iTunes! on my ipad - the whole process was simple compared to the "work it out yourself" on Android. Missing features - you dont need file management if itunes and cloud set up right. Also there is a lack of integrated messaging on Android. Hangouts has no way to send videos to each other for example. .. why? Messaging/Facetime is better in that regard. its easy. Not as polished - things like the Data Toggle button for example still hasnt been fixed! Yes its smooth on Nexus 4 but a lot of other devices have judder fests. Had it on HTC One and Samsung Galaxy. I have had more stalls and crashed applications on my Nexus compared to my iPad. Android isnt better- its different. The Apple system is great for most people becuase as they say it "just works". I'm sorry but that coupled with excellent design and build quality across the products is why they are so popular. But you pay a premium and get what your given. Cheapness and choice of what to do and buy is why Android is so popular. |

Maybe Apple is number one and Samsung is not far behind but I'm very happy with my Nexus 4 that I have had for just over 3 months now. I'm also happy with my just over 15 month old Nexus 7.
I will say I was never 100% happy with the HTC Desire S when I had it. Darren |
