Christmas Eve dinner
What do you have for your dinner on Christmas Eve . Me and my family for the past 5 years or so have always had a takeaway as a treat on Christmas Eve .
Do you have a proper meal or just a sandwich , |

Family tradition is to go out for dinner to a very nice restaurant (always the same one). There'll be enough cooking to be done over the week that follows.

I can't remember what I normally eat on Christmas Eve...it's probably better to starve myself to leave room for all the Christmas Day food!

Nothing special but we have it early, around 3pm as we then head off to the pub where we stay until after midnight at which point we'll probably grab some chips on the way home.

We always have a "Christmas buffet" - homemade sausage rolls, salami, pickles, crisps etc. This gets repeated a lot over the days to follow! Yum yum.

We either have fish of some description or a carpet picnic of deliciousness. Try to keep it light.

We usually have a buffet type thing and the family comes around. Since I'm not going home for Christmas this year though, we'll probably just have a mini-buffet for 2

normally a mini buffet type of thing. I open all the Christmas cheese, crackers, ham and pickled onions then have some pizza, sausage rolls and quiche. This normally happens again xmas night although it normally just includes the cheese, crackers, ham, onions and left over turkey

Usually we get something from the chippie as all the preparation is being done for Christmas Day dinner.

We usually get a takeaway. I've got far too much cooking to do the next day

Usually a main meal mid-late afternoon (a once a year thing as main meal is always in the evening the rest of the year!) of nothing in particular, whatever really. But! Xmas eve a huge joint of pork and a ham is always cooked all afternoon, with stuffing (for the pork).... then its warm pork n stuffing and/or ham sarnies with crackling, pickles and crisps on the side sat in front of the telly in the evening with a nice dessert after. Mmmmm.... cant beat it, the smell of it cooking all afternoon is amazing!! Then of course the rest is used for cold cuts over the festive season alongside the far-too-large turkey that's cooked the next morning!! Lol

Hot pork sandwiches with stuffing and gravy is the tradition for us, can't remember a Xmas Eve when we didn't have them.

Steak baguettes for us!
Then later we open the Bailey's (probably not the first bottle of the festive period either ) and have some mince pies.

Something nice like fillet steak although we're having our Xmas dinner on Xmas eve this year as we're going on holiday early morning boxing day. Don't want to have loads of leftovers, well...left over while we're away.

Bacon sandwiches. It's nice to have something simple before all the extravagance of Christmas day.

I just carry on a tradition mum used to do. We have boil in the bag cod in butter sauce with tinned new potatoes, tinned peas and tinned carrots. Followed by hot mince pies and custard. In the evening it's time for a start on the cheese and crackers!

I don't get why people will go out for a meal or go out to get fish n chips on Christmas eve when their house is full up with food. (must be a white people thing)
![]() ![]() We have so much food on Xmas eve, all the shopping is done and it's an opportunity for me to really be creative and cook something different with ingredients I may not normally have, including fish n chips, Curry, Chinese and Mexican.
