Hhhmm .. single core, 512mb ram and a low-res screen. Would only likely be good for a youngster or as a cheap and cheerful media player maybe.

I'd save up a bit and go for the hudl or the Argos one. No GPS on the Avoca, only 8gb storage, rubbish resolution and unlikely to have great after-sales support (eg for updates)

Spend £100-120 and you'll have a much nicer experience.

Handy comparison:

while i can understand where you're coming from, advising someone to potentially spend four times what they're considering paying on a tablet isn't really advice ..

CPW bought a batch of those tablets and added an extra £15 to the price.
These days, for that basic price, you should now expect it to have a low resolution 1024 x 600 screen, not a smartphone screen.

£50 is bottom end so buying some of that stuff can be like hitting rock bottom.

Yes Amazon do these type of tablets for around £30

I imagine it would be a frustrating experience using one.

sorry, i completely apologise - i've just re-read it again and you clearly didn't say £200 - just £120 tops. I clearly need new glasses .. doh ..

definitely worth considering. Very happy with mine

not sure how it compares to the Hudl, I guess an old Nexus 7 and a new Hudl are probably pretty similar spec-wise. It is nice to have the whole Nexus thing though, decent app compatibility and speedy updates. I know the Hudl comes with a bunch of Tesco bloatware/apps which I'd sooner have the option of uninstalling, but it has had some decent reviews.

I suppose for the price, this would be a back up tablet. I have checked it out, and it is extremely low spec. I certainly don't think it warrants a £100 price tag and, personally, wouldn't pay £49 for it; I would rather put it towards a quality tablet. It would suit a child but, if they play a lot of games, maybe not. The quality just isn't there. It's a case of getting what you pay for : monkeys/peanuts?

Not sure I'd want it for that myself - would rather just use my phone to be honest.
