What a load of tripe - it was filmed in my hometown of Port Talbot - I just saw some scenes as they were interviewing James Corden and what I didn't realise was that it shows Pauls early life there, showing him with welsh parents etc.

HE IS ENGLISH! HE DIDN'T COME TO PORT TALBOT UNTIL 2003 - 4 YEARS BEFORE HE WON BGT!

I'm annoyed over this! Not sure why though lol

My only problem really is out of all the people out there who deserve a story about their life, why him?

He was bullied, had a bit of a tough time and then found his confidence. Then he does an audition of a new talent show. He then wins it, had a hit album, second album flopped and he hasn't released anything since 09. Now he has another album coming out but it's just a greatest hits. There is nothing to cover really.

They're been pretty up front about the fact that it's not a real biopic and just uses him as inspiration for the story.

I see it as a privilege to be Welsh! I'm actually a bit offended that they've pretended he is lol!

I thought he was Welsh? That's what the Western Mail would have you believe at least. Anyone with Welsh links are suddenly born & bred Welsh in their eyes.

Yes, I find it odd that they've chosen Paul Potts to base a film on.

Sort of film I may watch out of curiosity as I know nothing about the chap, not being a viewer of overhyped 'talent' shows on TV.
But the fact that the obnoxious Corden is in it,will prevent that from ever happening I fear.
Like Russell Brand,Sweaty Gervais and a few others,I think Corden has got away with playing a mildly different version of himself, for way too long!

Makes for a rags to riches kind of story, then again SuBo's tale is much more of a success story that would make a good film albeit there's the personal issues that would need to be treated with delicacy .

Personally I dont get it about Paul Potts, he'd never cut it in real operatic circles and I just don't like his voice and he's bland. Like Russell Watson (whose voice is far superior) he's a pop tenor rather than legitimate operatic.

I suppose the writers thought the film would have more charm if the main character lived in a picturesque Welsh town rather than Paul's real birthplace, the bustling city of Bristol.

What accent does James Corden adopt for the character though? To my ears at least he doesn't sound particularly Welsh in the trailers.

You are missing the fact that he has done more than 400 full shows in 5 years in 40 countries and has recorded and released 3 albums. There is a world outside the UK you know. Not every country is as tall poppy syndromed as the UK is.

I love Julie Walters.
Can't stand Corden.

This is difficult.

Difference is that Paul can sing Nessun Dorma live in its original key - Russell has to have t transposed down a full key for live performances.

Everything else is down to taste.
