I think on her album, Magnetic is the best song (although its on the Deluxe Version of Alive). It's more like a tragic, heroic song. She should have made either that or Sexy Lady a second single.
Magnetic was also a soundtrack in the film, Mortal Instruments: City of Combat I think..

She is a great singer but has no definition as an artist. Often she is trying to push her image as a 'black' artist and it just doesn't work. It's false.

For whatever my opinion might be worth, I've listened to the new album and, for me, there are no real standout singles on it and i quickly lost interest.

The first album had plenty of obvious singles. I still listen to "Abracadabra" on a regular basis and I can't honestly see why they never put it out.

So I think that's why it's not performed as well as the first one really.

I think it's because she's overexposed and hailed as the second coming of pop music by the media.

There's so many great songs on 'Alive' and so many potential singles. It's My Party is probably the weakest on the album.

Its under perfoming because the material is sub par and her singles haven't done anything to draw people into buying the album. She has a great voice and is a good performer but constantly records uninteresting, generic material that anyone could sing, she really under sells herself in that department.
She's currently doing a huge arena tour all over the UK right now and will joining be Robin Thicke during his US tour though so its not all bad.
Check it out

I genuinely don't understand why people, like yourself, feel the need to be so horrible about people. She is a human, not just "Jessie J".

In pop music terms its not a good album IMO, things have 'calmed down' now since she was very over marketed for her debut. Plus I'm really not a fan of the vocal acrobatics great you have an ability to hit high notes, big deal.

Honestly, 9/10 times an artist is going to succumb to a sophomore slump. That's why it's such a widely recognized issue. In my opinion, I think it's down to marketing. Labels invest so much money introducing a new artist and their debut album to the world that they then believe their follow up can sell on word-of-mouth alone.
It's the third album that really matters, it proves longevity. A decent, well-selling third album is where an artist truly gains a standing fanbase, and also where they are more likely to have longevity. This is not easily done. If it was, the world would be full of artists like Britney, Rihanna, Beyonce etc. and more legends like Whitney, Mariah, Madonna etc. would exist.

I'll be honest, the fact she screeches is the reason I don't like her music.. There is no need for the noises she makes when singing, it's just annoying.

Also, I think Its My Party is a complete copy of Domino, in terms of melody at least

I loved Jessie's debut album the six singles were all great I also loved rainbow I haven't got the new album.
I don't really like it's my party as pointed out it sounds like pink raise your glasses and is just too dull.
the music video is also average she will need some better singles in order to get more people buying it.
I will buy the album only if I like the other songs as for her image well I actually liked her at the start of her career.
I'm not too keen on the blonde short hair I also believe the sexuality allegations have harmed her.
Even lying by saying i'm not gay even if she is would have been better instead she kept quiet making people talk.
she was very open on alan carr and in an interview with glamour magazine ever since she won't talk about it.
I know it's her business but the music industry is about marketing as well I also think she over sings.
whatever people say about Mariah or celine dion at least they build their songs up rather than the whole thing being belted.

I think the songs Jessie J should release as singles for this album are:
1. Wild (ALREADY RELEASED)
2. It's My Party (ALREADY RELEASED)
3. Thunder (TO BE RELEASED)
4. Sexy Lady
5. Magnetic
6. Conquer The World

4. Sexy Lady Video - can be about women being happy with themselves and embracing themselves. Maybe show Jessie walking along the Runway with other models and dancing with them.

5. Magnetic Video - Maybe her and a man as Prince & Princess in a Fairytale or something.

6. Conquer The World - Maybe also show young people being happy and confident with their sexuality or race and Jessie and the people walking long streets with everyone watching them as they fight for their rights and freedom. The video should also feature Brandy.

You say "closeted lesbian" with such venom. I actually think she's milking the lesbian rumours because she thinks it's edgy and sexy. But I digress.

She is a pretty girl with a hot body. She has a perfect bite - if you think that she has a malocclusion you're lacking basic knowledge in dentistry. Her nose is small and not particularly flat. Overall, she's actually very pretty. She makes herself look unappealing with her stupid haircuts and gurning, which she obviously thinks makes her look edgy and tough.

How has she milked the lesbian thing? I've only heard her say anything about it once on the Alan Carr show two years ago where she said she doesn't like talking about it because it isn't a big deal to her and anything since that has been tabloids doing their usual sensationalism. She literally doesn't even talk about her love life in any way. The Marie Clare article she did even says that they were told not to ask her about it.

That doesn't seem like someone who is trying to milk those rumors. The exact opposite actually. I've read people saying that she is trying to hide it now and seem more heterosexual, but I think she is just trying to make it as much of a nonissue as possible by not addressing it.

In response to OP - "Has the album flopped?"

I would say in comparison to her debut - yes!!

More so, as stated by many - the single choices have been poor (The Saturdays Syndrome as I'm calling it).

I have the album and I'm really not blown away by it. I was looking forward to it but the tracks are all a little "meh".

Sexy Lady is screaming to become a single but its going to receive alot of negative backlash due to its similarities to Domino.

I suspect that the pointed silence is a subtle way of drawing attention to it. For example, if she really didn't want people talking about it, her people would have told Marie Clair not to even mention it, rather than announcing that they weren't allowed to ask.

Well, their direct quote is "the topic I've been told to steer clear of tonight is her sexuality which has been the subject of speculation," which I presume was added because in the following sentences she is talking about how one day she wants to be married with kids, but doesn't say which gender she wants that to be. The writer of the article specifically says that Jessie is talking about men, but that isn't clear in the things Jessie is actually quoted to be saying. She just says what she wants in general. After the interview is over, her team have no say in what will make final print no matter how many requests they make. That article doesn't even have the correct name or her album in it.

Fair enough, I don't follow Jessie J or celebs closely, it was just the general impression I got from her

Dissapointing.”

I agree, I dislike the rapping in wild, if you actually listen to the acoustic version, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32kP7OVxaXY It sounds like it could be a great club track and build up to this big ending but the rapping just seems like an unnecessary interuption for that.

Agree with this, that puts me off her. She oversings, it is why I don't listen to beyonce or christina much either as they all oversing and why I rarely like the big belters on reality shows , no matter how talented they are. I wish people would sit down up and coming singers and teach them that less is more. If you listen to people like peggy lee, nina simone, billie holiday etc they didn't have to resort to showing off their entire range in one song, it was all about the emotion of the song and showing the character of their voice which makes them distinctive from other singers. I don't mind the occasional trick when used properly to bring the song to a big dramatic end but not throughout the whole song.

She was singing with water in her mouth. She was telling the audience how when she was younger she taught herself to talk with water in her mouth so she could continuously talk while at the dinner table. So, she said, I wonder if I can sing like that. That gif, is the result.

Here is the actual video of that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOXQ...e_gdata_player

Her music is great. She however is very unlikable. She comes across pompous and big headed. I'm glad this one isn't doing as well.

I used to be a fan of Jessie J years ago. I used to listen to her music when she would upload videos of herself to You Tube. She was interesting, different, quirky. When she released her first album, a couple of these songs made it on there. She has just changed too much though. Now the music she is releasing is almost bubblegum pop. She's selling herself short. She's also become extrmely annoying as a person. "People want the old Jessie J back". You have one album under your belt for crying out loud. She needs to go back to making decent music...music that she wants to make.

Soulless it is. Unlike Pink, who she is a poor man's version of, she manages to convey zero emotion in her singing. I thought she was alright when she came out but she is pop by numbers and while she can sing her voice is not easy on the ear. Agree that the exposure on The Voice was hugely to her detriment because she came across as an immature hyperactive tw*t.
