A couple of days ago my note 2 didn't charge overnight as it normally does and I wasn't able to charge it enough to be able to turn it on *I just kept seeing a grey battery with a white circle. Tried different chargers and I even followed some trick I found online and I managed to get it to charge up to 13% overnight so I was able to turn it on back up my data.

Anyway what I'm not sure about is if the battery is the problem or if the phone is the problem in the sense that it isn't able to charge a battery. I don't have a spare battery to be able to try and I don't want to buy anything until I know what the problem is.

Another thing to consider is that I bought the phone last December from Carphone Warehouse but I'm staying in Italy at the moment and not returning back to the UK until December 16th, and I don't know if that would make it over one year since I bought it and I'm worried about surpassing the 1 year warranty period.

Anyway from what I've read of other people experiencing the same problem I suspect that the problem is the phone and not the battery and that the phone needs to be repaired. So can I contact Samsung? Perhaps there's a way to mail samsung my phone and they'll mail it back repaired?

I'm hoping someone will have experience of this sort of thing.

Okay first thing you need to know is that it's a 2 year warranty so unless it's accidental physical or water damage it will still be covered.

Secondly it's an EU warranty so you can get it repaired within Italy, you can also return it to the UK to get repaired (although you may have to cover the cost of postage. I can't remember offhand).

I'm not sure how to contact Samsung Italy (it's probably on the website) but you can contact Samsung UK on 0330 SAMSUNG (0330 7267864).

Hi, thanks for the advice, the strangest thing has happened since my post.

I took my phone to a friend who also has a note 2, by doing this I hoped to eliminate whether the problem was that the battery won't accept charge (what I hoped) or that the phone wouldn't charge the battery, or any battery (what I feared). So I put my battery in my friends phone and I put her battery in my phone and we set them both to charge. Strangely both phones charged both batteries. Previously my phone would only charge my battery if I disconnected the battery while the charger was plugged in, and even by using this method a whole night of charging would only result in a 13% charge, I could never surpass 13%. Anyway I put my battery back in my phone and it has kept charging up. I had to disconnect and come home and I've reconnected the charger since and we're currently at 30%.

Who knows what is going to happen, I'm afraid to ever let my phone go below 13% again for fear that it will fail to recharge above it.

Anyway it's good to know about the warranty issue.

Well that's good to know that it's okay at the moment.

Yeah I think a few people don't actually realise the warranty is two years so they're phoning us in a panic about it being out of warranty when it actually isn't.

(I work on the Samsung Galaxy technical support helpline so I tend to get a lot of these calls.)

I'm sure you probably have all the answers but I really didn't believe anything would come of it by swapping the batteries, it seems to have saved my battery, like it had a blockage, but of course we don't know if they problem will return or not.

I also couldn't believe the trick that got the phone charging again (even if it was only up to 13%) and it allowed me to back up my data and contacts which is a hugely importance to me. The trick was that you plug in the charger to the phone, then put in the battery, a grey battery symbol with a white circle will appear on the screen then fade and the phone won't charge, however if you pull out the battery while the grey image is on screen, then continuously touch the connectors together, after 4 or 5 touches a yellow battery with a black line will appear. When that appears keep the battery connected to the phone and the green battery charging symbol appears and the red charging led also comes on.

If any of your customers are desperate to get to their data, this could very well save them.
