She gives no performance at all and I am tired of them making excuses for this. She also looked off balance and unstable throughout. A 6 would have been fair imo.

You can really tell Sophie feels silly/embarrassed dancing the flirty, fun party dances. She really needs to sell the dance a lot more; half-hearted, stay on the right side of cool doesn’t translate well. If she ups her energy level and allows herself to become the character the dance requires we’re sure to see a paso with fire and oomph and a salsa much better than her awful cha cha.

Unfortunately you are right .

Sophie is my favourite but last night was her worst dance and maybe she should have been marked slightly less, but to say she's coasting off her Charleston is ridiculous.

Her Waltz the first week was graceful and elegant, her Samba was great technically and she smiled all the way through and her Foxtrot was classy and stylish. I have watched all of them more than once.

As she gains in confidence I am sure she will get even better in performance.

Her waltz was overrated and hesitant and her samba was dull and vacant. Neither deserved the scores they got.

Her foxtrot was decent though. I'll give you that one.

Whilst I'm not sure about overmarked, Sophie definitely didn't seem confident tonight. What confuses me is, whilst yes, clearly she's better in the ballroom, her Charleston remains her best dance to date, pretty much unanimously decided so- and yet she spent the entire thing out of hold, did complicated solos and tremendous flips and lifts- all of which suggests latin dances should play right into her hands! The Samba is perhaps tricky because it was such a technical dance for week 3, but her CCC should have been much better! Maybe nerves got her tonight :S but it remains a mystery to me how she struggles with Latin so much after all the key elements to it were in the dance she loved most!

I agree with you hun. She was like a deflating blow up doll in the waltz, her samba was ugly and wobbly, but her foxtrot was lovely.

I thought she was very much over marked tonight, but the scores this series have been all over the place.

I'm not an expert Damahepa but from what I do know, the demands of the other Latin dances are quite different. You need sinuous hip movements and a sexier, more flirtatious feel (things that don't come as naturally to Sophie as the swivel action and cool kooky vibe needed for a Charleston).

Oh no, I completely agree, the demands of a Charelston and a CCC are very different, but what I'm saying is the elements, although technically different, still require similar skills, and the confidence Sophie had in her Charleston, one would have thought, would have carried into her Latin.

I'm afraid she is going to be like Cherie Lunghi - graceful and elegant in the ballroom but no feeling for the latin. This is very common in the competition world - very few people are equally good at both.

I've enjoyed watching Sophie until this week, I felt she was "disconnected" last night. And I thoroughly disliked the dress

Len was right about Sophie's CCC as was Craig about dancing the walking bit. Darcy's "too cool for school" comment from a couple of weeks back rings true again.
She did a lot of walking and posing tonight and not enough dancing.
I will be interested to see her do a Paso or an Argentine tango. I doubt she has the fire for these dances.

By this year's standards, 30 isn't exactly overmarked; there wasn't anybody on the leaderboard behind her who should have been ahead of her, and she was tied with Fiona and behind Ashley who was stuck with flat feet and a collage of Ola's most repetitive latin choreography and desperate tactics, so I don't really see the problem.

I agree with most of your post except for the foxtrot
I only thought that was alright

she wont get away with her (IMO) lazy way of dancing in those dances being too cool wont work in those

I dont get the comments of her being good, she always looks awkward, uncoordinated, ungainly, inelegant, gawky, gauche and all legs and arms

She was counting all through that - no sense of rhythm

I really like Sophie and find her beautifully elegant in ballroom, and her charleston was amazing, but last night she was all over the place and really lacklustre and did not deserve the 8s that she got.

I think she will be able to put herself out there a bit more in the more serious dances. I don't think it's a case of acting too cool so much as party Latins make most people feel like a bit of a tit. Most of them find it much easier to get a character going for the tango and paso.

Sophie did say on It Takes Two, that as the movement of the Cha Cha Cha starts on the 2nd beat of the phrase instead of the 1st, it was undoing everything she thought about music, and she kept starting on the wrong beat. So that may account for the obvious counting, and why she didn't dance it that well.

She didn't say it like that, but I had to look at a ballroom dancing website, because I couldn't quite understand.

i wouldnt have minded a hot mess. but she was more like cold porridge...

i thought it was interesting in the VT they talked about her laughing at some of brendan's moves... and (although i am sure he can sometimes be a bit cheezy) i suddenly got a picture of a rather insecure and vain personality who spends an awful lot of their time making sure that what they are doing looks cool/good on the outside.

I'm not convinced on either her acting abilities, she hasn't shown any signs so far, or her ability to show any fire. She's cool and laidback, quite a sunny if shy character. Drama and anger don't strike me as being one of her strong points, she seems to be a better dancing Rachel and look at that paso.

I think Sophie's strong point will be the dreamy ballroom dances.

I love SEB but her whole schtick is elegant cool. Even her amazing charleston was laid back and cool - no mugging. I just think she's either too self conscious or too conscious of making a tit of herself to ever be able to really let go and give it 100% in the latin. And, much as I love her, I want someone who looks like they want it to win. Unlike with Deborah or Abby, I just get the feeling that if she got voted out it wouldn't be the end of the world for her. Come on Soph, give it some welly! Oh I came over all Len!
