DTC & Shirley
Why does DTC value Shirley so much? By bringing in Tina, Mick & Linda he has resurrected a character who was virtually in the gutter a few months back.
I would have chosen Sharon over Shirley to be given a lift personally... |

No matter what happens, Shirley will never be more than a short step away from the gutter. A two bit lush of seismic proportions.

Vaslav, I'm really starting to think you are deliberately trying to wind everyone up with your constant threads that usually end with some mention to Sharon.
Just stop it, mate. |

DTC created Shirley so I am guessing he believes she was wasted under Newman - I am sure Linda Henry is happy though..

You don't have to click his threads if you don't want too, yes they might be excessive at times but he allowed to post threads if he wants it's not harming anyone and nobody is forced to open it, maybe Vaslav will take the advice though to maybe bump one of his other similar threads in future.
On topic, I think its been said DTC was part of Shirley creation so maybe that is why he feels she needs more family to give her more storyline lets be honest her own connection left on the square is Phil and that was never a good one. Sharon I don't know anymore what they going to do with her, next couple of months will be very telling if they want to invest in her and repair the decapitation of her personality and history on the square, she has the foundations and history and a lot of potential untapped storylines but that's if they can be bothered, he said to be a fan but he already has his other similar bottled blonde tragic heroine in Ronnie, another of his creation and so many other similar female characters. |

What has Shirley's family coming in got to do with Sharon, it's not as if she loses out by it. It is Alfie that is losing the Vic. It wasn't Sharon's to lose.
If they want to develop Sharon they will, Carters or not. All this either/or is getting on my t!ts. Anyone would think Phil was the only man in the square and the Vic the only place to work. |

Shirley is so self destructive she will be back in the gutter. Her natura; habitat.

Doubt it, its obvious DTC got plans for her no point in everyone denying he wouldn't bring in her family if he wasn't confident in her character and possibility.
But no, Newman, DTC live in a fantasyland with her. The most honest storyline with her was her mccklunkys sacking then homelessness. |

Why do people on here think that bringing in some extended family for one character means that all the other characters on the show will be overlooked? It's just a stupid argument with no foundation.
Personally I think DTC realises that Linda is a good actress and deserves better than what she's been given for the past 12 months. If giving her a family will root her back into the show and put her in a new direction, then I'm all for it. Her last couple of episodes before her 'disappearance' showed that she can work well if she moves on from being bitter over Phil. |

Just stop it, mate. It is also not serving Sharon's cause. Whilst you may have a point of discussion regarding why dtc is expending so much effort for Shirley; throwing Sharon name into it just narrows the discussion; inflames opinion; and does more harm than good. |

Agree re fighting over phil. Being with him does not validate a character (despite what someone on these forums seems to think).

Shirley's revival and the introduction of the Carters is a vanity project from the man who created Shirley. Whether it succeeds or not remains to be seen. I agree with Vaslav. Sharon ruled EastEnders twice over in her previous stints. She should've been a priority before a recurring character like Shirley who is off screen more than on. If there are plans for Sharon too then that's great but it's about time they announced something about her.

Sharon is expected to have a big 2014, so maybe BOTH characters have been given a life.
However, I'd like to see more family brought in for Sharon. |

Maybe because Shirley can act, I'm not a fan of Sharon or Shirley, but Shirley is a good actress so far Sharon performances on screen have been very weak.
I'm hoping the introduction of Shirley's family means a new direction for her and not being bitter. |

Where is the evidence that Sharon is being relegated due to the Carters coming into the show? Just because there have been some new signings and axings, doesn't mean the extended cast will be forgotten about.
We know pretty much nothing about DTC's plans - however the small pieces of info we have been given (new family in the Vic, Tina plus the exits of some deadwood) are actually pretty good moves. |

How do you know he doesn't have plans for Sharon? The only reason we know about his obvious investment in Shirley is because he has cast members of her family. For all we know, he could have huge ideas for Sharon which we simply don't know about yet - much like we don't really know anything about his plans for any character.
It's not as though he has come out and made an official statement about his plans for Shirley; it's just something we have assumed based on the casting of the Carters. Investment in one character does not automatically require neglect of another. No, we haven't heard anything about his plans for Sharon yet - but we haven't heard anything about his plans for Phil or Kat or Arthur's bloody bench either. Not making an official announcement about something doesn't mean nothing is going on. If that were the case, we'd have to assume that DTC has absolutely no plans for anybody but the Carters and Sonia. |
