Corrie is shot very well. A mixture of 'realistic' shots of daytime goings ons from deliberately unimposing camera angles (sitting in with the characters, letting them tell the story) with a helping of more dramatic close ups with shallow depth of field. I like in Corrie's big episodes because you get the ultra close ups and these have been used in Corrie since it was first aired. The general Street scenery is solid as well and looks great on film. Corrie also whip out beautiful night-time shots like Hayley/Roy in Blackpool or people in the Street with the glows of the Bistro in the background, as well as fabulous interior scenes especially intimate ones at night time. Kim Crowther made Corrie's visuals incredibly drab and dull but miraculously Phil Collinson changed that and even stated so in an interview. It appears Blackburn hasn't ordered any obvious changes to the show's visual theme.

EastEnders comes off a bit grey and lifeless overall, though it does do 'silent' and ominous scenes best of all the soaps (not often enough anymore), and their use of the 'train rushing past' always gives off an exciting effect. While Emmerdale is hit and miss visually. It went 'filmic' for a time but quickly reverted, though retains a more stylised feel and certainly during siege-week can at times look like a film. And it used music quite regularly in the mid noughties, and this gave the show quite a cool edge to it. Remember Zoe's exit and others with amazing songs playing over the scenes.

Hollyoaks is obviously very glossy and more edgily shot, as it should be being the younger soap. I dislike its more supernatural/dream/montage sequences but the actual drama itself with the silly add ons taken away is pretty glossy and it's the only soap shot with single camera I believe?

Overall Corrie and Hollyoaks win for me.

Home & Away has been filmed well for a while now. It has the best lighting of any soap.

Hollyoaks is shot like a film using a single camera technique, and many of the sets are real buildings with four walls and natural light. For that reason, I'd go for Hollyoaks.

There are limitations/drawbacks to this method though.

HO and CS are filmed best. CS has the best interior sets, while HO has the glossiest feel, with Corrie a close second with nice contrasts a mixture of shot distances and depth of field.

Home & Away works well because the lighting inside the sets is so good, plus they have a beautiful looking landscape for exterior shots, which looks even better due to the abundance of natural light.

In terms of UK soaps I like the way Emmerdale is shot overall, although sometimes the interior sets can look a little bit fake and are either over or under-lit.

The worst shot in my opinion is Eastenders - it just looks grim, the interior sets are small and poorly decorated and everything just has a dull "flatness" about it.

EastEnders just looks grim, and now it is shot in HD it shows up how cheaply the sets are done. I can't see new sets anytime soon while the future of BBC Elstree is in doubt.

I think EastEnders looks the most cinematic/professional. Corrie and Emmerdale don't have the polished look that EE has in some scenes. EE is known for using camera filters etc to add effect and I think it really works, it gives the show an edgier hint as well.

I find the sets on Corrie can be too bright and lurid, same for Home and Away.

Corrie and HO are definitely overall the best. The worst would be Eastenders for me it sometimes can be really dull and lifeless (A bit like the writing 90% of the time)...

Hollyoaks for me. Whenever I've caught clips of EE the picture quality is quite poor and grainy. As someone mentioned above, HO Later is always so filmic - especially the fifth series.

Watching Home and Away they do have some good shots, like shots out at sea, looking towards the bay as charectors are walking along the beach.

Hollyoaks for me. Single camera really gives the show something the there don't have. Also the last two series' of HO Later have been filmed on such a brilliant way! Specially the 2012 series!
