When it came to brilliantly crafted and unique sounding/structured pop music the songs Xenomania wrote for Girls Aloud were second to none, in my opinion. Plus, whilst I like all the girls individually they were perfect together as a group. Their whole sound and the way their voices blended was so distinctive. Such a shame they called it a day. Worse though that they took that '1 year break' that turned into 3 years and they'd lost their momentum by the time they returned. I feel sad though that they will no longer be around performing/making songs as brilliant as Sound Of The Underground, The Show, Something Kinda Oooh, Call The Shots and Untouchable.

I miss them too! On the Metro and Every Now and Then from their Ten Greatest Hits just signalled that they still had it in them for a cracker of a pop song. Shame neither saw life as a single!

One of the best acts to ever come out of a reality TV show. They managed to shake off that reality TV tag and produce some great pop songs.

They truly were pop personified. The best group to come out of one of those shows, great songs, great tours which also had something special and a songwriting team of Xenomania who created some truly great, quirky and different songs.

Along with Sugababes (especially 2.0), they really did make my teenage years great in terms of music, they will be missed in the long run I think.

The way it ended did leave a bitter after taste though. 1 year break turning into 3 years, the "we will never actually split up, just take breaks to work on solo stuff" turning into a split, a noticeable rift between Cheryl, Kim, Nicola and the others, two amazing tracks not being released as singles whilst BCYLM (which I do actually like) peaks at 97, dampened the reunion and eventual split

Totally agree. Girls Aloud. Best Pop Act ever in the UK In my opinion.

Reunion was not that bad, No.2 single, 150,000 selling 2nd GH album, 20 arena tour dates..

I mean what girl band can sell out 20 tour dates after going away for 3 years. They did 32 in 2009 at their peak. They've played over 100 arena's. Sugababes/Little Mix/The Saturdays would struggle to compete with that even with theatres.

I miss the Aloud too...buts it the right decision....a new studio album wouldn't have done well as before. Beautiful was a pefectly fine radio friendly pop song, when it peaked at that and radio didn't play it enough that was the final message that it was the right decison to disband. They wont admit it but thats was key to their decision.

I could have really done with a new hit track from them this year. It sucks knowing that they will never reunite again.

Why didn't they release "On The Metro" as a single? Morons. Would of been a hit.

I kinda do too

For me, they really hit their mark with Out of control and I think they easily had another album or two from them. They never felt like they were slowing down or past their best.

I know! They should have released that instead of Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me. Another thing I liked about Girls Aloud was that they never had to resort to rent-a-rapper to sell their music.

I'd like to see a new girl group rise to the top. The Saturdays are boring to me. I like Little Mix but there doesn't seem to be much interest in them in this country. I even liked Wonderland but they were very, very short lived.

It seems really hard for girl groups to crack the market and stay successful these days, which I think is too bad. A good girl group can be great fun.

They were something special, and as a huge fan I'll always listen to their music.

It's almost hard to imagine another girl band to come along that had the same chemistry and performing skills that the girls had when they pulled off their huge arena tours year after year after year.

Each album had its own sub-genre of music and their singles are known to millions. I'm just glad they went out on a high with over 200,000 arena tickets old even with a £15 price increase and a 3 year break. 'Something New' was the perfect comeback single (ignoring Beautiful), and was the best place to leave the chapter.

"We're the leaders of the pack".

I always thought it was criminal of them not to release 'Girl Overboard' from Tangled Up.

Agree....
Such a shame that BCYLM charted so badly. It almost ended the era on the worst note possible for me (kinda embarrassing for them too) ..
Either way, for a Girl Group that came from a reality tv programme, they really set the standard of both fantastic tracks and longevity.

But BCYLM wasn't really an official single so It doesn't really count.

It clearly was supposed to be, it was announced as a single, they made a video and they performed the song on tv, but once it became clear it wasn't going to do well it was claimed it wasn't a single.

We all know that was just a cover up because it was a certified flop.
Just like Stooshe with their latest "single" My Man Music - it wasn't getting the attention that was predicted so the record company pulled it. They even deleted the video.

BCYLM was intended to be a "proper single" .. Im a GA fan but I'm not in denial.

I can see what they were trying to do with BCLYM, making it the slowie final song. But that's not really how GA do things, they should have done Every Now and Then as the final single as the lyrics speak volumes.

But it had no release date so radio didn't play it and no physical release.

I thought they peaked with 'Out of control'- always seemed to me to be a strange time to take a break, when they were at their most successful. I think 'Turning back the rivers of time ' would have been a great single.

i think the secret of their success was they were never marketed as "reality show", that and having two STORMING singles to start with

was never a big fan of their jingly pop stuff like THE SHOW, i was a fan of LONG HOT SUMMER, but their stuff after that was terrific .....

not heard BIOLOGY, SOMETHING KINDA OOH for ages
