Interesting I know a town that has 4G switched on about 3 weeks back that isn't on that list.

They work 'out' from locations they've already done, as they've done Cardiff and Newport they are now doing the surrounding areas, and they'll continue to grow outwards from there, targetting the main towns and areas on the way out.

As i posted in another thread it seems another month of EE marketing putting a bit of spin on things.

Again like the last announcement the places listed have actually been live for months as were part of the rollout in adjoining places like Hinckley was done as part of Leicester live May time,Same with Coalville and Ashby.Then today they have announced Harlow which was live back in May and June as part of London upgraes , Then they have said Cymbran which was done as part of Newport.

It is rather disapointing that rather than announcing actual new places have gone live they trying to break down areas. It seems to have gone very quiet on live dates of the already announced places like Northampton,Bournemouth,Ipswich,Cambridge

Are you sure they've not done more filling in around these areas in order to say they've officially launched and have enough capacity?

Totally agree it has gone very quiet for these area's and the end of the year is approaching very fast too for EE to finally announce 4G for these towns to go live.

Well i can only really comment on the Leicestershire ones as visit them regular. In Hinckley the whole of the town and surrounding villages have been covered for months in line with the Leicetser launch this was 3-5 bars of signal so not just one bar from a couple of masts the coverage checker has also always showed Hinckley,Coalville and Ashby as having good signal.

I know EE network priority at the min is depth,speed and capacity for current areas but around here I wish they would push out South from leicester centre to Kibworth and in to Market Harborough as that would then mean they could have near blanket coverage all the way from Sheffield down to London once Northampton goes live.

As i said i was in Harlow and Hoddesdon in June and got good 4G coverage and speed then same in Cwmbran in July. As you said I could understand the press releases a bit more if these areas had just 1 bar suspect coverage but have been in full service.

They're a bit late with Cwmbran and Caerphilly aren't they? Both have been live and on the coverage map for months.

Makes it very hard to compare the networks when EE seem to announce every town/district individually and O2/Vodafone seem to wrap them up under one larger banner.

Areas that EE count as individual places around London for instance O2 and Vodafone just count as 1 place under the London banner.

The new prices might give O2 and Vodafone a shake up too if they are offering more data and cheaper tariffs. We'll have to wait and see...

EE will only announce a town as "live" once a certain % of land boundary is covered. That may explain it?

When is the estimate for Aberdeen now.Anyone know??

Within 6 months according to the coverage checker.

By end of November, was meant to be part of this announcement but there are a few issues that is stopping them from launching a city wide roll out.

Norwich was meant to be done by end of this year but I wouldn't be surprised if its not.

Plymouth 4G going on and off like a whore's knickers go up and down.
I have a friend who runs a cloud services business down there and he keeps sending me iPhone screenshots showing the "4G" symbol with a text along the lines of "EE 4G.. Yippee".
10 minutes later he's downbeat because it's disappeared again.
I have it on good authority that it will really be on in the next couple of weeks.
Interestingly the lone Plympton 4G mast on the outskirts that covers the EE call centre now has full coverage and covers a long section of the A38.

Backhaul on the Plympton site has been sorted and I believe some new cells have been added.

Can't comment on launch date however I've not seen any city testing either?!?

We may get 4G here in say another 10 years Hope so, then if enough people uses it, 3G will be better.

Is that quite a short mast as the coverage plot from it is a bit queer, is it hilly? Can't remember Plymouth much, only ever been by boat.

Plympton site is located on outskirts of Plymouth at the former ITV Westcountry studios (before it was mothballed and packed off to Bristol!) as discussed here before. Quite high up. Good views of Dartmoor from there...
