Yes. Originally set up to serve the call centre only. Presuming with the imminent roll out to the whole city they've upgraded the site...

I have a pic of the cell somewhere if I can find it.
Yeah, mast originally had it's coverage skewed towards the call Centre and even though you can clearly see it from the A38 there was only a whiff of signal for maybe a 100 metre stretch. You had to turn off and get closer to get a signal. Now (for anyone who knows where the Tesco store is) it almost covers down to Lee Mill and nearly to the brow of the hill before you drop down into Plymouth. About a mile. Speed test last week was still about 12 Meg so will be interesting to see if it is better now. May still be on reduced spectrum though I guess, Causing the slowness. Haven't noticed any more coverage though. Took my children to the Cinema there on Saturday and still 3G in the city. My friend has reported 4G twice and sent screen shots. (He's nowhere near the Plympton cell by the way. He's up near Derriford Hospital and when he had signal it was 4 bars or so). Was only turned on briefly though so they must have been testing. Also I went to another company I deal with nearer home and a guy who works there just casually told me that he had enjoyed using 4G in Plymouth a few days earlier. It has been on and off a few times. |

Norwich was meant to be done by end of this year but I wouldn't be surprised if its not.

The Orange mast on the EE site definately isn't broadcasting LTE. I get 3 bars LTE in the building (1 bar in the bogs lol) and 5 bars solid on 3G everywhere. LTE signal hasn't improved in-building since the Langage site was switched on in Feb.
I can only believe that the site above has been "bolstered"... |

I wonder if it'll extend to the Ivybridge transmitter? probably not I guess.
There is that Orange monopole mast in between as well (on the left going towards Plymouth just past Endsleigh garden centre) which provides the main coverage for Lee mill. The main Ivybridge mast is the second in a microwave chain from the BSC at Sparkwell. Or it was microwave, I guess they'll fibre where they can. Third in the chain is mine at Marley head and the last is at Bigadon hill covering Buckfastleigh. This was when they were all orange masts though from 1996. probably changed since then. |
