Why not contact X factor/Syco and ask. They should be able to confirm validity or should be interested in finding someone masquerading as their scout. If it's a con someone less savvy than you could be caught!

I don't know whether being asked to appear on x factor is a compliment or an insult, it's like being approached by a football scout & being asked if you want a trial for a sunday league pub team.
