Corrie's Sean gets a boyfriend (not a regular)
http://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/news/n...name_page.html
CORRIE: 1ST GAY COUPLE Feb 6 2005 Sean gets a boyfriend CAMP Corrie factory boy Sean Tully is to get a screen boyfriend - giving Weatherfield its first-ever gay couple. Real-life gay actor Antony Cotton has been a massive hit with bosses who signed him up to play cheeky machinist Sean. Now they have rewarded him with a lucrative new contract and by introducing one of Sean's old flames to beef up his storylines. Shaven-headed actor Nick Moss will play Louis, a once-besotted boyfriend from the past. A Street insider said: "Antony has been incredibly popular with viewers who say they would dearly love for Sean to have a relationship, and Corrie bosses have responded." Actor Nick, 24, who is straight in real life, turns up in the Street to tell Sean that the dog they bought together, Shandy, has died. The Corrie source said: "Sean is beside himself with grief and this eventually brings the couple close together again." They arrange a burial and as they lower the tiny coffin they break into the Barry Manilow hit Mandy... substituting Shandy for Mandy. The source added: "It's a really tender storyline full of pathos. Classic Corrie." -------------------------------------- This sounds hilarious! ![]() Looks like Sean won't be getting it together with a regular after all. I think that would have been stretching credibility a little bit too far. |

I've tried googling Nick Moss with no results (unless he is a slightly portly jazz man with his own band called the flip tops - unlikley). There's a few Nick Moss's on imdb, but I think the most likely only has one credit to his name, he was in The Calcium Kid, credited as 'skinhead'. Can't find anything better than that at the moment.
The storyline itself, sounds very silly, potential very funny Shandy/Mandy, and god knows I'll probably end up crying during the dog's funeral. Nice to see Sean getting a relationship though

stoped watching it last november since they introduced the gay stereotype.
did you notice how the say he has been a hit with viewers. of cource a camp gay man with witty one-liners will go down well with homophobes who glory in this stereotype. but show them a sr8 acting gay man and suddenly its a different story. i hate corrie so much for what they have done, and will never watch until sean is gone! |

Seans great!
I know he's a stereotype but that doesn't mean there are no gay people with his demeanor. Corrie aren't saying all gay people are like him.

Surely you must admit gay men like Sean do exist? The actor himself has said he doesn't even have to do that much acting.

I must admit that I wasn't too sure about Sean becoming a regular in the show at first and I was absolutely horrified at his first scenes in August as I thought they were way too OTT but he calmed down a lot after that and went back to Canal Street Sean, who I love
![]() I think it's great that Corrie have had three totally different gay characters in the past year (the confused teen, the straight acting gay guy, and the camp stereotype), although I do think that, with Sean being the "Only Gay in Weatherfield", there will be a lot of homophobes out there who see him as being the typical gay stereotype, and so I think they need to bring in another completely different gay character to show a contrast....I'm hoping his fella will be completely different to how Sean is! Sean's great though, I love him! ![]() Laura xx |

Did he appear before, or am I confusing him with Karl's boyfriend?

Did you know, the actor that plays Sean, originally played Karl in a very brief appearance with Martin and Katy. Then he was recast.

I don't think Antony has ever played Karl?
I remember Antony being involved in a party scene- I think it was a party at the hospital and Katy was flirting with some guy (before she and Martin had properly got it together) and Martin got really jealous and Antony had to sort it out- but I'm sure he was playing Sean and not Karl? The first time we saw the lovely Karl was in a hospital scene on Christmas Eve in 2003- he was looking after Martin after Martin had had his car "accident". I might be mistaken, but I always thought that Antony had been playing Sean during the Jealous Martin party scene? Laura xx |

I'm glad they did recast him though, Todd wouldn't have suited a camp Karl! ![]() Laura xx |

Sean did used to work for the hospital though, in the tuck shop.
Antony's IMDB also lists him as playing Sean Tully in Corrie from 2003 onwards. Laura xx |

I think Sean's great, glad he is going to have a partner. Be interesting to see what he's like.
My partner works with quite a few "Seans" - the reason he is a stereotype is because gay men like him do actually exist - as someone else mentioned, Antony Cotton is quite close to the character in real life. And to forestall accusations of homophobia - my partner and I are gay. |

When Antony first appeared properly (not counting the canal street scenes as they were too short!) he was very camp and OTT and I thought "omg please don't leave us with sean as our gay in the street" but since then he has certainly toned down the campness and i love him
.He doesn't always play the camp card..(in certains scenes with Eileen & Jason when Todd was leaving/left etc. he was serious and that why i like him even more). I think he can do serious as well as comedy and I think he is a great asset to the Street. I know many ppl on here think he is just the typical stereotype and its portraying a bad image especially to homophobes who want to believe that all gay ppl are like Sean but the Street is full of stereotypes. We cant ban them all or we would just be watching the titles! Very glad they didn't pick a regular and I am pleased that Sean is going to be seen having a relationship. I think the Shandy/Mandy scenes will be very good and I hope that Sean's fella will be just as popular as sean is .Though i still think one of Sean's old friends from the hospital ought to come and visit him a certain good looking nurse maybe

Sean is a bit of a stereotype alright but Corrie can't ignore that gay men like Sean do exsist, it would be ridiculous to try an ignore them as they wouldn't be being true to life. We've seen three different types of gay characters in the last year which has been great. I would like to see this trend continued by seeing more of a mix of gay characters on Corrie, the straight acting gay man, the camp gay man and I would like to see a kind "bitch" gay character too, whilst not going down the road of splitting up an established hetro couple, could come in and cause friction for an already established gay couple. Those types do exist aswell. Theres also the married straight man with kids who has a boyfriend on the side, a hell of a lot of them exist aswell.
I like Sean, didnt' think he'd fit into Corrie as a full timer but they've allowed him to settle and his one liners are great, he works well with the factory girls. I'm glad the Producers aren't going to ignore his love life, much like EastEnders did with Derek, well except for that awful Easter storyline they did last year. |
