My favourite way to 'make' pizza is to use a pitta bread as the base, spread ketchup on it and add cheese, ham etc. then grill...yummy

Yes, I've got a pizza stone and I use Jamie oliver's dough recipe. I prefer just tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil but my husband loads his with pepperoni or prosciutto and rocket. It's actually one of the only things he'll cook on his own, after I've made the dough and put out the ingredients

Yep, pizza stone here too.
It's great for making a 50/50 deal.
My ingredients this side, yours that side

If you use a large premade naan bread, that makes it even better!

I also use Jamie Oliver's dough recipe.

It's great fun to make the dough and you feel like a proper Italian!

I make my own tomato sauce by reducing tins of tomatoes with olive oil, sautéed finely chopped garlic and dried oregano.

I also use a pizza stone and I've got one of those paddle/shovel pizza peels which is very effective for getting it in and out the oven and, again, makes you feel like a pizzeria worker.

Finally, I should say that the pizzas come out delicious! Nothing like the taste and crunch of freshly baked dough!

I recommend giving it a go - its fun and you'll love the difference to pre-made supermarket pizzas.

My Mum used to make pizza with a savoury scone base, it was lush

I use a breadmaker to do the dough.

Does anyone have any ideas for alternative pizza sauces, i.e. instead of a tomato based sauce? I tried Sainsbury's porcini mushroom paste, was ok. I like the idea of a mushroom sauce so might try other options

Pesto is always good. As is chilli and BBQ Sauces.

Are you a student?!

Pizza dough is pretty easy to make. I don't bother with shop bought bases as the texture is too spongy, although waitrose sell a decent stone baked base.

I too use the Jamie Oliver dough recipe and bake it for about 12 minutes. I then wrap them up individually and stick them in the freezer.

When it comes to toppings, as I'm not that keen on tomato based sauces, I spead Philadelphia extra light mixed with a garlic clove or two over it, add sauteed mushrooms (sauteed with garlic!) and wilted spinach, then bung some light mozzarella over it and shove in the oven for 10-12 minutes.

I have also tried adding an egg on top (like on a fiorentina) but found it tricky to gauge how long to cook it for (I did it for too long and it went a bit rubbery).

It's lovely (if you're a garlic fiend like I am!).

There are different options for bases depending on time & effort.

Make your own
Buy fresh dough - Tesco sell it.
Buy prebaked bases
Buy flat breads such as Mission Deli Piadina
Buy buns such as stotties

The problem with the prebaked bases is that you don't get the soft doughy texture, even in a thin base.

Nooo...but I'm a lazy pregnant 22 year old

I actually don't like shop bought pizza bases, I find pittas a lot nicer and so so easy.

Do they - where? Not in my local Tesco Metro they don't.
They do sell a pizza dough/base mix (just add water) so I tried that and it was OK.
I tried a scone base too but I thought it was a bit stodgy

They've changed where it is in my Tesco. I'm not sure they'd stock it in a Metro.

It used to be where the pastry was (Jus-Rol etc,)
now it is where the fresh pizza/pasta ingredients are.

There are also fresh bases available from
Jus Rol - http://www.jusrol.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductId=37

and ASDA used to stock Pillsbury. Not sure if they do anymore.

I remember getting one and it unrolls into a rectangle so you need to cook it on a baking tray which means it doesn't get a nice cripsy base (unless you have an appropriately sized baking stone).

I used to make it a lot, especially with the kids - they love doing it!

Usually we bought the bases. We made our own a few times though. Just put some tomato based sauce on top, sprinkle with grated cheese and add tuna/meat, onion, sweetcorn, pepper, mushroom, etc.

I'm another who uses pitta bread (wholemeal), but I have fallen in love with Warburton's Square wraps; they are great for the job.

I make my own tomato sauce base, or use BBQ sauce (Tropical Sun's Jerk BBQ sauce is a favourite; I like a little kick). Then just top with whatever is in the fridge/veg box and add cheese.

To be honest, the bread base is so different it doesn't exactly taste like pizza, but I prefer it. One day I may have a go at spinning my own pizza bases and seeing if that turns me on to proper pizza - I'm not a huge fan.

I make ours all the time now, we never order in anymore.

Make the dough from scratch as really easy and sauce is made from a tin of toms boiled down with a pinch of sugar and some herbs. I always have cheap mozz cheese in the fridge just in case the urge takes us for a pizza night.

Might try the frying pan method next time round though as looks like it might work well.

We went to a pizza place when we were on holiday this year and the pizzas were amazing thin and crispy like you get from a wood fired oven. After much persuasion the chef told me he cooks them in a conventional oven but adds cream to the base he refused to say quantities or method (obviously) but the base was so flaky and crisp. Have looked all over the Internet can't find a recipe with cream in the base. Don't suppose anyone can help out with ideas of how to go about experimenting?

I do make them from time to time from scratch, the grand children love anything involving messing up the kitchen by spreading flour, pizza base, bread, cakes...all work for them lol. I use pasata as a base for the sauce.

I always make my own dough. After much experimentation my recipe is 50% semolina and 50% 00 flour, produces a really nice, crispy and flavoursome base. Used to knead by hand with variable results, but now I use my bread maker and get perfect results every time.

My sauce is passata mixed with olive oil, dried oregano, black pepper and a pinch of sea salt.

My favourite topping is simply buffalo mozzarella and (ideally, if I can get it) fresh oregano or basil. I used to make them with lots of cheese, mushrooms and pepperoni or chorizo but simpler really is better.
