No EE specials for its 20th?
By the looks of it all BBC1 is doing for EE 20th birthday is having a 1 hour special on the 18th February, with no special programmes looking back at the 20 year.
For it 15th in 2000, BBC1 had a special 45 mins episode for it birthday which was a addition to the 3 episode a week plus Happy Birthday EE, which looked back at the past 15 years also BBC1 had EE family tree which looked at all the EE family and how they are linked. And it had EE greatest episode which viewer called in to vote for the greatest episode which was then showed in full on BBC1. 20th birthday is more important than 15th, does anyone know if there is going to be any special programmes for EE 20th? They should have some special programmes for its 20th. |

I would be very disappointed if the BBC didn't do anything special for EE's 20th anniversary.

Yeh I'm rather disappointed that nothing is being done. Well UK Gold are having the EE at 20 weekend but BBC1 dont' seem to be doing anything. I think in regards to the actual main show, storylines and Production have all been up in the air for the past while that they probably couldn't stretch to an additional episode say on a Sunday, the 1 hour episode on the Friday will do me. But I'd like to see more acknowledgement for the show from the BBC on its 20th birthday.
On its 15th it had a whole evening dedicated to it on BBC 1. Hopefully next year the show will be back in proper working order in time for their 21st birthday. |

It looks like it is just a hour 1 special noting else. I think they will do more at the 21st as the soap as had so much press at the moment they proberly did not want to over do it.
There is a book out Which is very good. |

Yeh probably, it is a shame though, maybe they're just happy to let it pass quietly, as a lot of negativity has surrounded the show in recent times. I mean you only have to look at when someone mentions the great storylines of the past 20 years, then people automatically point out the state the show has been in recently, which is fair enough. A one hour special will be suffice.
As I say, 21 is also a big year, Brookside had the Siege on its 21st birthday which was fantastic, so I bet they'll be planning something good for the 21st. |

I've been watching the 20th anniversary programmes on UK Gold. My favourite episode of all, when Pauline smacked Arthur with the frying pan after he confessed about Mrs. Hewitt was just on
EE really was gripping in those days (and not a gangster to be seen)

Only just found out the Friday episode will be a 1 hour special... but then two deaths in half an hour was pushing it a tad.

That was the first time i have ever seen the first episode and you're right, the whole square looks so different! Den talking about his shirt at the end was quite amusing

Do you think so? I think I'd have preferred the Pauline from back then, although she is a lot older now. The Square looked a lot grittier back then, the Queen Vic looks absoloutely manky lol I loved watching Lou Beale in that episode, a shame I wasnt' old enough to truly appreciate her character.
I watched the Kat and Zoe storyline again, fantastic! these two played a blinder and anyone who says neither of them can act should watch this episode or at least look up "act" in the dictionary. I so wanted it to continue on to the rest of the Slaters finding out, but it had to end I suppose lol Pauline and Arthur I loved this episode, I remember I quite young when that went out and when Pauline threw the telly I was like omg! I love this show, it was the type of you you'd never have seen on Corrie in them days lol Also just thinking, could Mrs Hewitt have been the original bunny boiler? lol |

Pauline sounded like she was sucking helium in the early episodes
One thing that has much improved since then is the acting.

I also really enjoyed what I saw of the @20 weekend today (being at work yesterday). Watching from the Bianca/Carol/Dan to the end.
The Kat/Zoe "I Ammmm" episode did stand out far above the others IMO (though the Bianca/Carol stuff was almost as gripping) and really must be congratulated as one of EE's best ever episode. I must say thats the second time I've seen the first ever episode (the other time was around 8 years ago when BBC1 showed a set of them mid-mornings), and it's raher good, and a great way of slowly introducing the characters. Lou Beale was a right battleaxe, and it's so strange seeing Den and Angie getting along (they are mainly remembered for the "6 months to live"/Christmas divorce stuff), and Nasty Nick not emntioning his "ma" |

Seen as the ill soap is now recovering from its 2 and half year bad patch aka Louise Berridge, I am celebrating in an unusual way - I'm writing a 'EastEnders' type virtual series titled 'London Thames' and is sticking to the old traditions that 'EastEnders' broadcasted from 1985-2002, 2005+...etc I cannot post a link to the official 'London Thames' website but is on my profile. The series is due to premiere on 4th June 2005.
'EastEnders' SHOULD air a whole night of EE classics and tons of specials in between, with comps, qizzes, EE facts, loads of bloopers, interviews with original cast members such Leslie Grantham, Anita Dobson, Peter Dean, June Brown, Wendy Richards, Bill Teacher, Letitia Dean, Nick Cotton (forgotten his real name lol)...and loads more classics such as Mrs. Hewitt, Clive, Michelle, Mark, Sue and Ali, Pat, Roy, Ricky, Grant and Phil, and the one and only...Babs Windsor. The BBC could easily think of hundreds of special events to do. What I would love to see is a new version of the theme tune - we haven't had an update for nearly 11/12 years! I am not talking a drastic change but maybe adding more strings and maybe a different set of drums for the dumdumdumdadadada bit and maybe a soft sax for the ending part of the theme instead of the flute - I think it is a flute? |

One thing mentioned in the first episode was that it was Den and Angie's wedding anniversary so Den will die on the same day he got married to Angie.

I never realised the jazzy theme tune was at the end of the Pauline and Arthur episode. So when Pauline start crying on the floor, I heard the beat an I was like what the hell is that? lol I like the EastEnders theme really how it is at the moment, It would be nice if they didn't talk over it or cut it out. I think it adds to a really good episode if you hear the theme at the end uninterrupted.
I agree with all the ideas for the specials. Maybe there will be an EastEnders night, who knows. The BBC should be showing how great the show is and despite its up an downs (which all soaps have) its still a really good soap. |

I agree with you Will for the Dot and Ethel ( where Dot helped her to die) episode yesterday the woman talking over the top spolt it and it was a really old nice song different from the normal theme tune.

I used to like when Corrie just played the credits and there was no music, completes the atmosphere of the episode. |

The square looks different because only 3 sides existed back then! The B+B side was not seen until xmas day 1986 so the camera was always pointing away from that side in the beginning. And the set only went as far as the train bridge.
It was very grotty looking as well. And in the early days we would see people looking from the windows thereby making the outdoor set look more like a real house. |
