The Great Comet of 1789. Supposedly the biggest and brightest comet ever seen; but it strangely it was never seen again; unlike Halley's comet, etc. which come back every few years. There's potential for a story there. Was it really a comet? If not, what was it? A spaceship? Friendly or hostile?

(And as an added bonus, 1729 is also the geekiest number of all time ever!)

I'd like them to do prehistoric Britain. They've touched on it with the Stonehenge episode, The Stones of Blood and An Unearthly Child, but I'd like to see a proper historical adventure in the neolithic period where people were building all the stone circles, longbarrows and other monuments. Avebury would be a good place to set it. The Peterloo Massacre would be another good one, as would the Spanish Civil War.

Wasn't their meeting alluded to in "The Shakespeare Code" ? If so it would have been 10 that met Liz 1, not 12 ...

But it's really more ancient Greece than Atlantis.

Some historically unexplained phenomenon might be good for the Doctor to provide a solution to - Spring-heeled Jack, the Devil's Footprints, the Mary Celeste, that kind of thing (Flannan Isle would be too close to Horror of Fang Rock)

It would be interesting to see the Doctor meet Leon Trotsky, Henry VIII of England, Lord Byron and Percy and Mary Shelley (origins of Frankenstein!)

Already a companion of the 8th Doctor.

And it was the Daleks that were responsible for the Mary Celeste. though other versions may also have occurred.

Not on the TV series. If those stories were done in other media, they can still be re-done for television, as Human Nature/Family of Blood was.

The Daleks being responsible for the Mary Celeste is from the TV show, it happens in The Chase.

Ignoring things that have been done "off-screen" (not wanting to start a canon debate here, it's just that novels and Big Finish stories have been cannibalised for the TV before, so it's easier to just go with the tV show):

Ancient Egypt (it still amazes me that - brief aside in Master Plan notwithstanding - TV Who hasn't visited this era)
The Flying Dutchman
The Mayans
The Salem Witch Trials
Rasputin
Jack The Ripper
Lovecraft

Also, I'd like at least some of them to be "pure" historicals. An Egypt episode would no doubt have to be a rematch (pre-match?) with the Osirans, and a meeting with Lovecraft positively demands a fight with a space abomination, but something like the Witch Trials as an alien-free story would be wonderful [the PDA that covered it was magnificent, after all]

I always thought it would be a good story to have the DR trying desperately to stop something from happening, but without realising the full ramifications of his actions. Say for example he stops an asteroid wiping out an entire planet a few hundred light years from earth by altering its course sending it off into the unknown. Excellent - he saved the planet!

Off they go to the future in tardis, only to find it completely different. All due to the fact this asteroid affected untold things on its journey, crashing into a sun coursing it to wipe out several planets and alter the course of history.

effectively the DR either has to live with his actions or go back and change what he has already done. Something he says can never be redone. And if he does change it, he is allowing the asteroid to hit the planet, for the sake of the galaxy...if you get what I mean... No happy endings and a burden too big for the companion...

Another vote for Ancient Egypt here. Come on, BBC!

Byron, Rasputin and HG Wells would be great too IMO.

I'd like to see parts of the world we haven't seen much yet, if at all, since the reboot or even since 1963. We don't tend to see much beyond Western Europe or the USA, let's see a bit of Australia, Asia or Africa.

Also let's see some more alien planets please.

There are so many good historical events they could use. I do sometimes think the show is too 'British' why not have stories set in other parts of the world such as ancient Egypt, the Mayans etc...

The 12th Doctor should visit Pompeii (way before Volcano day, of course. Or maybe wherever the family he rescued ended up)

Or maybe he should Visit the nasty "Children of Earth" period of earth's history, see if he can help out and everyone looks like who they should.....
