When I hook up my S4 Mini to my mac, it isn't seeing it, so I assume I need some kind of usb driver for it. I searched Google and was told to install Kies, which I've done, but I still can't see a way into my phone (I want to add new tones).

Any ideas?

If it's in MTP mode you can use the Android File Transfer application on your Mac.

Or maybe you could switch your phone into USB mass storage mode and have it appear as USB drive.

MTP is the preferred way of transferring files these days.

No advice but be careful about plugging an Android phone into a Mac. You might get taken away by the men in black turtlenecks for re-education

That's ok then I have an Android phone as well for the same reason. When I can afford an iPhone I'll get one. I never plug it into my Mac though so I don't have to worry about the men in black turtlenecks.
