Having read and posted on the pizza thread I wonder how many posters feel that bread making is beyond their ability.
I've made it in a bread maker and by hand but............ here's a really good way to start to get some confidence. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...ghts+bread+mix Available in supermarkets. Just add water, a bit of mixing, shape it and bake it. You might get hooked

It would be a shame if people thought it beyond their ability, because as someone who loves baking but lacks the deft touch needed for pastry, say, I always had good results with bread, even when I failed miserably at everything else.
Machines have taken over for baking cakes and the rubbing process, but I still make bread by hand. We did have a bread machine for a while (my flatmate's purchase, not mine), but it threw itself off the kitchen counter one day in the process of kneading. I never felt the need to replace it and my flatmate has also discovered the joys of making bread by hand - he makes a delicious honey-flavoured wholemeal bread that impressed his mother, a life long baking lover, so much that he often doubles up the recipe so he can take her a loaf. |

Never made bread before I got myself a stand mixer. Now it's been months since I bought any bread. My family tell me it's much nicer than shop bought. It's so easy to do and you know exactly what's going into each loaf.

Of course, I use a kitchen aid with a dough hook as kneading cripples my hands for days after
