The sound on BBC 1 HD
carvell

Does anybody else find the sound on Strictly on BBC HD terrible? The audio mix is all wrong. The 'voiceover' booms out, you can barely hear Tess, there's some kind of delay between the left/right channels for the audience channel, making it sound '3D'.

Is it just me?!

(on Satellite by the way)

Mine's always bad on virgin media. Drives me mad but I have to watch on HD.

I commented last week about it but no one picked up the comment. The moment the programme starts the programme volume drops right down and it starts to sound rather muffled.

The odd thing is that occasionally during the programme it briefly comes good for a few seconds.

It's a common fault on HD (I am Freeview so no idea about satellite) and been like that for ages.

I tried every audio setting on my Viera but all the same, I was actually looking to see if I could set it to Mono in the hope it might be better.

It happens frequently on Channel HD (not that I watch Channel 4 often) and has the additional problem there that the adverts are normal volume so you have to turn the set's volume at the start of the adverts before the loudspeaker is damaged.

I've got freesat and a decent amp and surround sound system. It sounded okay to me, but my ears aren't the best. Does other broadcast audio sound 'normail'.

I put the HD sound through my vintage Leak tuner/amp and big Goodman's speakers.
It sounds brilliant and I can really hear Trev's driving bass in the tunes you should hear it.

Conversely the sound from our Panasonic Viera, (which I mute) which is so thin, the speakers face backwards, is naff for music.

I have to crank the sound up on Freeview and Freeview HD as it sounds like a toilet with echo.
Then the links inbetween programs blast my ears out.

Its not the sound, its the different levels on all the channels that's the problem.

I only watched it tonight because of the Halloween theme, but I said that the sound was terrible.

Freeview HD, 5.1 sound via a high-end processor and amps and it was fine for me

I would not say my amplifier and speakers are 'high end' just adequate but the TV sound through the amplifier sounds exactly the same as on the TV speakers.

But the programme is broadcast for people to watch on ordinary TV sets, it's crazy to use a system incompatible with standard TV sets so that some switch to SD or just switch off.
