Who Choreographs the Charlestons?

Neither seemed to be too spectacular tonight. Is it the pro in the couple who does it or not as I recall previously there were outside choreographers used for this dance?

They only get outside help if the PRO needs it. Most PROs choreograph all their own dances.

In that case good on him, he did a fantastic job. I found Fiona and Anton's tonight too safe. I had high hopes for it given the footage but it was almost as if (in contrast to the previous dances ) there wasn't enough in it to stop her rushing the steps in certain sections. I think they're in trouble tonight.

it was definitely mentioned on itt last year that they always get outside choreographers for the Charleston and AT (unless they were Vincent/Flavia in the case of the AT)
btw, Brendan had never done a Charleston with any of his celeb partners before Sophie, so he could hardly have choreographed such a good routine without outside help

Pasha choreographed his own Charleston and Tango last year. It doesn't just apply to Vincent/Flavia. I'm sure, Artem, Iveta and Anya will choreograph their own Tangos and Charlestons to. Some of the PROS have been dancing & choreographing dances long before they were on SCD so they know how to do it.

Suzanna seemed to have charleston by the book tonight. She didn't even have to do a halloween character, which seems very fortunate after seeing Sophie's jiving vampire and Mark's paso spaceman.

Tango is not the same as AT (Argentine tango) and Pasha never danced the AT with Kimberley last year
I strongly doubt Pasha choreographed their perfect scoring Charleston last year without any outside help as it's not his specialty

Maybe not, but the aviator theme was a reflection of his interest in flying and Kimberley has said Pasha put in their "spinning propeller" cartwheel move.
(He did dance the AT the previous year with Chelsee.)

If they do bring in outside choreographers (I know they used to), then its a shame that they aren't acknowledged.

I'm fairly certain that all the Charleston's of 2012 were choreographed by the same person, based purely on my familiarity with the dance and it's steps. Also, IMO last years were created by someone with a stage show background, rather than a swing dance background.

That's not to say the strictly pros don't have a dialogue with the outside choreos and make suggestions and additions etc.

This years have been more varied and less good than last years so maybe the outside input is smaller now.

In the early days of Charleston on SCD the advisor/choreographer was Ryan Francois.

I think Anton and Fiona's dance was choreographed for them. In the Tesspit last night Fiona said something along the lines of," I didn't think it was that bad, we did what we were told to do"

well spotted - Bill Deamer who choreographed Sophie's Charleston confirmed to me a few weeks ago on twitter that he didn't choreograph Denise's and Louis' Charleston last year

It's a dual effort between a nitrous oxide addict and one of those toy dogs that does a somersault every five seconds.

They usually have help with the ATs and charlestons, check last nights credits for Bill Deamer and Kele Baker. As said above Brendan did a shout out to all involved in their charleston.
