He was very rude to Mark about his tummy! Some people think it was in jest but for someone who struggles with his weight, it was probably very hurtful.

I am not a Bruce hater - hate is a very strong emotion and reserved for particular circumstances. I certainly wouldn't use it for anyone so insignificant. I don't think anyone here has said they hate him. Dislike him intensely - yes. Hate - no. That's the interpretation of those who don't mind/like him just to try and make the dislikers villains.

As for NEVER mixing up names of people of different genders - no I have NEVER done it, even having arond 500 people a week to deal with. Mix up boys' names - yes. Mix up girls' names - yes, but boys with girls or girls with boys - NEVER! So, in our eyes I'm obviously perfect. Thanks.

Yes, and Mark didn't look pleased either, as most people wouldn't.

I really missed the part where Bruce 'stole the show' as well. When did that happen? He just seemed to be his usual self to me, ie mildly irritating.

Bruce stole the show all right by highlighting his incompetence. I suspect his 'Dave' moment will be another nail in his leaving Strictly coffin.

He was merely participating in the show's Halloween theme, by doing an impersonation of League Of Gentlemen's Papa Lazarou. "Hello Daaaave? Is Daaave there?!" etc. You might have missed it but shortly after he said to Darcey, "oooooh you're myyyy wiiiife nowwwww...."

Brucies 'Dave' moment was a Saturday night highlight for viewers at home.

When I and my sisters were young my mum would often run through the whole family's names, even the dog's, before hitting the right one. I believe that is pretty common

Ok so not a hater but there is some very nasty dislike for him on this forum.

I certainly have mixed up names of people of different genders and I have seen and heard others do it too - it's not that unusual.

I can remember once at work there were two people standing next to each other, male and female. I spoke to the female but called her by the male's name. We all thought it was funny.

It like when you speak and use a totally wrong word - or maybe you've never done that either

Bruce consistently gets things wrong, fluffs his lines and gets out of position. Most of us get things wrong occasionally but when this happens in a work environment on a regular basis there's usually a procedure in place to manage it because it's unfair to everyone else. Whatever procedure the BBC has it looks like they need to reformulate it because it isn't working.

It is known as the competency route for dismissal.

Bruce doesn't help himself with his refusal to wear an earpiece.

If the producers could communicate with him when they needed to, he'd probably make fewer mistakes, one of the reasons why the show runs more smoothly when Tess is in charge - the producers can tell her to hurry up or slow down, or to intervene if necessary..... Bruce has always refused to wear one as he thinks he knows best.

It was obvious that he needed on last night when Len had to tell him they were out of time - and Brucie's reaction was to instantly tell the couple to "get off!" Nice!

I believe that Sir Bruce did steal the show on Saturday night, but Sir Bruce does seem to captivate you to a certain extent Janet.

Dealing with 500 per week is a very impressive feat I would not be able to do that, just out of curiosity Janet, are you a quite strict teacher ?

Hmm..

If Bruce "steals the show" so much, why does his absence make no difference to the ratings?

To suggest he does is ridiculous.

Hang on though!

I 'sppose the fact that he's on the screen for far too long for the actual contribution he makes and the fluffs, irritability, interrupting the judges, silly jokes and constant attention seeking behaviour could though, be describe as "theft."

He certainly needs "arresting"

Brucie is brilliant.
He just is Strictly for me.
Even at his age - he out performs any other presenter.

I dont understand all the flack against him.

Tess fluffs up as much as he does - but she doesnt have his wonderful ability to turn situations into laughs for the audience.

He's a legend.

The show would be all the poorer without him.
I hope he continues for as long as possible.

Bruce's performances are getting closer to the point where people will be laughing AT him rather than WITH him.

A lot of the situations he "turns into laughs for the audience" are more and more of his own creation due to his fluffs or mistakes.

The constant reminders of "it's live!" Don't excuse those errors - if you can no longer cope with presenting ( not running) a live show - the answer is simple - step down and let someone who CAN do it take over. In his heyday Bruce was quick, sharp and (grudgingly) good at what he did. Sadly these days his mind doesn't work so fast, his reactions are slower and his vanity doesn't allow him to wear his glasses to read the autocue, or wear an earpiece so the producers can communicate with and help him.

When Tess covers for him she does a great job (possibly because she's not having to cover up for Bruce and hold his hand) and Tom Bergeron from DWTS USA also does a great job - both simply present the show rather than turn it into a vehicle for themselves.

As a child my mother used to call at me "Timmy, Tiger, what is your name?" and they were cats.
I've called my uncle, Aunty Ron and he's a 6ft6 ex police inspector!
Mixing up a name is a very conman mistake.

Couldn't disagree more. Strictly for me is the dancing, and to a lesser extent, their background stories, their development, their relationship with their partners, the dresses, the music.

The only bit of Strictly that Bruce represents for me is the fast forward element on catch up when I can skip those lame jokes and get to the real part about strictly quicker!

There's truth in that. I've always considered Bruce a bit of a "conman,"

Totally agree - he seems to think he is above everyone else in terms of how he works

He probably doesn't wear an earpiece because he hasn't mastered the skill of listening and talking at the same time, which nowadays is essential in broadcasting. The days of hand signals which were used when he first started out have long gone as technology has advanced.

Brucie's the centre of attention before the shows airs, during the show and after the show and ever onwards until the next show.

No one can stop talking about him and that's what's arresting about him. Brucie draws attention to Strictly each and every week. The celebrities come and go and there's never any consenus about them but the BBC can ensure they keep their one man publicity machine appearing on the show. They'd be bonkers not to see what some viewers want to refuse to see.

Oh yes, I've done that, but I couldn't afford to get genders mixed - what would parents think if I referred to their daughter Jane as John? Wouldn't go down well would it?

Yet he has no problem wearing that hilarious hairpiece.
