Are Coronation Street cast members allowed to do other things?
Does anybody know if Coronation Street cast members are allowed to appear in other programmes?
The reason I ask, is because Ive just read a report about the specials of "As Time goes By" being recorded and Philip Bretherton (Ian) is in those, so either the Sally/Ian affair has finished being recorded , or they are allowed. |

I don't think they are allowed to do adverts of work in another role for another prgramme whilst under contract. Exceptions are probably Stars In Their Eyes and shows like This Morning.

I think Philip Brethertons contract will be finished by the time As Time Goes By is shown. That may be why he is in them because he would of left Corrie by the time they air.

It may well depend on their contract and whether they get permission from the producers.

I believe it is a bit hard. I know Debra S. is doing Celebrity Fame Academy. I think really the only person that has a seperate contract is Bradley Walsh who had a previous contract to promote his book elsewhere than ITV. He appeared on Jonathan Ross's radio show et al.

Ian and family are off on a holiday next week aren't they. Maybe that's got something to do with it?
And as I remember it - which is a little vague admittedly - Alistair (was that his name?) although regular, wasn't a huge character. |

I suppose it depends really what the other show is. Sue Nicholls was able to do a BBC comedy series while still in Corrie a few years ago. It was the spin-off of Rise and Fall Of Reginald Perrin, which she'd been in in the 1970s.
