are samsung going to release the 4.3 or 4.4 update for the s3? ive been told by someone that its only being released for the s4. is this true? and when if it is being released for the s3 will it be available

So far Samsung have not mentioned if they will be releasing it or not for the S3
I read the S3 would be getting the 4.3 update along with the Note 2 but later than the S4, possibly in November or December.
I am pretty sure it'll get the 4.3 update. I don't think it'll get the 4.4 update, though.

It would be pretty bad if it didn't get 4.4. The phone is barely a year old. It should be getting kit kat as it started it's life on ICS.

I don't think the S3 will get 4.4. 4.3 is expected at the end of the year though. The S3 is about 18 months old so when it gets 4.3 that's pretty decent support by Samsung compared to other manufacturers.
Surely the s3 should get both as it sold alot more than the s4 and is dtill regarded by mamy as their flagship phone.

Although I do agree that 4.4 probably won't turn up it does show how bad support is for a phone after 18 months when Samsungs support is seen as good!

My galaxy note started on ginger bread and was upgraded first to ice cream sandwich and then jelly bean.
Who wants updates for a 2 year phone when most people change their phone every 2 years or less?
Even if people keep their phone for longer than that it's not going to stop working.
Why are people obsessed with updates (they are nice but not the be all and end all).
I've had my S3 for nearly 18 months (and did not get it when they first came out) and would be happy even if I did not get another update.
Google also do updates on parts of the OS (like maps, Gmail etc) without having to do major updates.

I would assume most people want the latest and greatest for such a capable handset, and to be honest most handsets are capable of handling the newer updates (my Galaxy Note is still capable of running 4.3 as I m running it now with custom ROM). The only limiting factor is the ability of the manufacturer to update the firmware.

Strange as my 18 month contract is up in exactly 1 month (4th December) and I did not get it as soon as it came out.

Just worked it out - it's just over 17 months since the release on 30th May 2012 so must have bought mine less than a week after release (thought it was longer than that, but guess it was me thinking it was ages being eager to get the phone).
Still don't mind if they did not do anymore updates after 18 months/2 years though as will be getting a new one soon and like I say it's not going to stop the phone working if it goes without an update.

Many contracts offer an upgrade when you only have one month left of the contract - that would add up to 17 months then.
Where exactly have you seen the contract end date?

I either had the option to upgrade 2 months before the contract ended (4th October) but the 18 month contract is up on 4th December.
