He was telling the truth, in our area Slange Var means: Hears to you, cheers, good health and good things to come.

It is sometimes reduced just to Slange but conveys the same meaning and sentiment.

Slange to you as well. Hears to you and tuppence, Cheers to both of you, Good health and good things to come for both of you.
