Please Leave DAVE & MARK Alone - 'The PEOPLES CHAMPIONS' Deserve To Be Respected ?

For goodness sake lets give these guys a break, Len crowned them The Peoples Champions, and they both deserve to be respected for boosting the Strictly Come Dancing ratings and giving us all some pre Christmas Winter Cheer.

Should we Celebrate Dave and Mark ?

Or is it OK to tell them to get on their bikes and " Go Now " ?

Without celebrities like Dave, John S, Widdy and all the rest Strictly would be very predictable.
Like most people I am guilty of voting for my favourite couple (the couple who's dance I enjoyed watching the most) rather than the best dancer (Natalie).

Throw off your shackles of guilt jinx, voting for your favourite is the way the majority of the viewers do, you are not alone, and anyway who wants the boring predictability of perfection, Dave and Mark make us all smile on a cold dark Saturday night.

Sorry Terry I will not be voting , but then I never vote. Keep up the cheerleading though!

Will you be voting for Dave or Mark if you get to grips with this new free online voting allaboard ?

It's how it should be What would be the point in a 3 month series if we were all suppose to just vote for the best? You might as well just have a one off show and be done with it. People should vote for who they connect with and enjoy. Be that the best dancer or a journey contestant.

Probably not. I'm just not one for getting involved in that way Terry. I'm quite happy to accept whatever outcome the voting viewers go for. I always like the eventual winner.

I'd like them both to be in the final.

As for a token woman, maybe Ruby Wax.

That sounds like a very good policy allaboard, do you find that it takes all the stress out of getting too involved in rooting for a particular celebrity?

I can see the obvious merit in your approach to the show allaboard, but I fear that I may be to far gone now to go back and try it unfortunately lol.

I suppose what it comes down to is are people laughing with them, or at them? Especially in Dave's case. I suspect the latter, and are voting to keep them in with cruel intent.

Please don't mention them in the same post. Mark can dance, has rhythm and musicality. Dave, unfortunately never will.

Why the question mark? Personally I think one can have an opinion, but one does not have to be rude about it.

I'm sick of hearing the phrase "the people's champion". It's been used to death to describe contestants in shows like SCD who are lame. The funny thing is, how many "people's champions" have actually won?? Surely they'd win every time because, of course, the public love them that much

I agree. He's a nice enough chap but he's not my "champion" nor anyone I know.

OP Why does Dave deserve more respect than the others?

And please do not tell people who they should or should not comment on just because their opinions are different to yours.

Please don't class these two together. Mark has rhythm, and can dance. Don't confuse his theatricality with a lack of ability. Last Saturday was a good example: the choice of music called for a totally camp OTT offering, and so it was. But underneath that there was still dance going on, movement, rhythm etc, though I will concede it wasn't paso! In evidence of "serious" Mark I offer his ballroom the other week which was good. It will be a sad time if he goes out at the expense of Dave who does not seem, whether through lack of ability or lack of intent, to bother trying.

Exactly!

A Strictly "People's Champion" is a euphemism for someone who can't dance!"

OK, I'll leave them alone by not voting for them.

My problem here is lumping Dave and Mark together when in terms of ability I think they are poles apart.

Dave can't dance. It might be he is trying really hard and that endears him to many. Fair enough. I don't buy it personally (I fail to see how that much effort and that much quality tuition could result in so little progress) but if that gets him this year's People's Champion crown than that's fine.

But Mark is not half bad. I didn't think much of the Disco Paso but then I don't think much of the corrupting effect of the Halloween special. He also has the dreaded rumba this week, so I anticipate he may have another low score. Although I am hoping to be surprised.

But that man has potential. His main problem is that he is not he shape we expect a dancer to be. So he will never look completely convincing because our image of what dance is supposed to look like does not include a rotund figure. But that aside he is doing OK in my opinion.

I agree with everything you say.

Re the bit I have highlighted. If Mark looked like Ben/Ashley (or even his namesake, Mr Ramprakash) I think that he would be receiving very different comments/scores from both judges and viewers.

If I had known you were going to 'bold me' I would have paid attention to my spelling.

Completely agree washboard and An Thropologist.

His shape makes his expressiveness even more remarkable -- cheating the stereotype we probably all fall prey to. Not meaning to speak badly of Lisa last year but, for contrast, she always seemed to do the same thing every dance. (Her routines all looked the same to me any way.) But Mark gives something different every time. He's probably shown more emotional range than any other contestant.

I do like Dave too but I like him rather than his routines.

Not sure why so many people put them together. Mark (it seems to me) could be a real contender. (Is this daft? )

You seem to be following me around the forum tonight Pet. Is that what they mean when they talk of having a monkey on your back?

Blimey I can't even remember who Lisa was - what does that say?
