At the minute Dave is the least deserving contestant on the show it he keeps getting voted in over the next few weeks he should do the right thing and quit.
God forbid but if he won the show would become a laughing stock because after all Strictly is a dance competition.

I remember when John Sergant quit I found a lot of respect for him because he thought of the other contestants who could dance.

If I remember rightly John Sargent's resignation came just before he was due to leave for a speaking tour he was already booked for. I suspect that nobody was more surprised than John Sargent that he lasted more than a fortnight. I have a hunch it might not have fitted in with his diary to stay longer.

Dave's a Biker, he won't quit.

It would be ridiculous to quit, he was entered into the show, he is still in for whatever reason, it would be nonsense to suddenly take some moral high ground about being undeserving. SCD made its bed and must now lie on it.

If he quit today he would ensure that someone 'more deserving' got the boot on Saturday.

Utterly pointless. If he quits ...someone will still go on Saturday's show and every week after.

If Dave quits, the person with the lowest votes still leaves....if Dave stays, the person with the lowest votes still leaves.

Dave quitting doesn't help anyone. If anything him staying may guarantee someone else an extra week ( as IF he is ever in the bottom two it's guaranteed the other dancer is safe).

Strictly is an entertainment show based round dancing - it isn't the best dancer who gets through each week but the most popular (though in many cases that goes hand in hand) to suggest he should quit because the public vote for him to stay is wrong

It certainly is.

As much as I'm starting to get annoyed by his presence on the show, I hope not.
The public obviously wants him there and they should have the last say .

I thought John S quitting was disgraceful.
Many people had paid hard earned money voting to keep him and Christina in the competition but instead he quit.
He said that the papers and Arlene Phillips had made him realise that it was time "he had to go". Yet he had been standing up to politicians for years.
If Dave quits it will be much the same thing, everyone who has taken time and effort and spent money to vote for him will have done so in vain.
It is one thing to be voted into the dance off but another to walk away (and that is without thinking of Karen and the time she has spent trying to teach him to dance).
Lastly, Strictly pays a fee to each contestant, a fee we the license fee payers pay. I'm getting a bit fed up with paying people for them to walk away with the money but without completing the job.

I doubt Dave will quit just because some random people he doesn't' know on twitter have asked/told him to. Besides, Dave hasn't got as far as John, yet. And even if he did, it's the public that have bothered to vote for him (whether for genuine reasons of liking his dancing, or to just pee off the judges) to stay. That's the name of the game, everyone should know that by now.

He'd better bloody not quit.

Quitting makes a mockery of what this show is about.
It's about a combination of judges' scores and public vote bringing together 2/3/4 finalists.
It's then about the public voting to decide which of those finalists they want to win.
If that's ultimately Dave then so be it. That's what the mix has decided this year.
It's worked for 10 series.

Having said that, I'd put money on Dave not winning or reaching the final.
And I'd lay odds John Sergeant wouldn't have done either.

Dave Myers has overcome real adversity in his life. People sending him tweets to tell him to leave don't come close. He replies by saying he's staying as long as people are voting for him, and thanks people who support him.

Yes, better dancers have gone before him, but no one yet who I think would have been in the final.

I just find it ironic that there's as many people screaming that Dave should go, as think Natalie shouldn't be in the show.

Dave at least, is trying and is putting training hours in. He's not refusing to do dances, not insisting that everything has to be his way. Good on him for giving it a go I say, I doubt he'll be there at the end, so let him enjoy it while he can.

I hope he doesn't quit (even though personally, I think it's time he went), It would leave a horrible taste if he were forced to quit through internet bullying. We don't see enough of normal looking, everyday, down to earth people on our telly boxes (and yes I know this is a dance program luvvies), but it does give hope to less perfect specimens, that we too can aspire to acheive something in our lives, without botox/teeth implants/starving ourselves/surrendering to surgery etc.... I like to see a range of contestants on Strictly and I'm happy to allow the vote to continue as it does. Dave won't win, but I'm happy to see him enjoy his time in the spolight.

Great post.

When it gets to the point where there are only potential finalists left, Dave will be voted off.

I would have thought his skin was thick and that the fact that he's enjoying learning to dance would make him stay. I don't know why though we're asking the question in the first place. Every case should be decided on its own merits and JS is different to our biker Dave. Good luck to the guy for getting through each week and annoying his haters

Dave's going nowhere until the GBP decides it's his time to go.

Dave Myers hits back at Strictly critics after they call for the chef to make a hairy exit

Quote:
“Dave said: "I'm having a good time and I'm not going to let people spoil that."

"It's a bit disrespectful to the people who have spent their time and possibly a bit of money to keep me in."
…
Dave remains defiant, adding: "A few people have suggested it on Twitter but my reaction to that is they can stick their head in a bucket of custard."
...
"If I'd supported somebody and they walked off in a big flounce and said 'I'm not doing it anymore', I'd be annoyed."”

it would appear he's already answered the question.

I really want Dave to go this week but certainly not because he's been bullied off by idiots on Twitter or on online forums. As others have said, it's not purely a dancing show - if it was, the judges decision would be final. Maybe some viewers would prefer it if the decision was left to the experts - but others would be moaning that the show was fixed and unfair if their own favourite didn't win!
I speak as someone who is heartily sick of the sight of Dave on Strictly, but while he is getting the votes, he 'deserves' to be there.

He worked as a furnaceman in a steel works so he can take the heat and this little episode will hardly test his mettle.

Quote:
“Born and bred in Barrow-in-Furness, Dave Myers' versatile skills have taken him to some unusual places. He worked as a furnaceman in a steelworks whilst a student, to finance a degree and postgraduate studies in Fine Arts at Goldsmiths, where he studied egg tempera and the work of the Old Masters. On graduating, Dave joined the BBC as a make-up artist, specialising in prosthetics. He went on to work on numerous feature films and high-profile television series, notably LIVES AND LOVES OF A SHE DEVIL, PRIME SUSPECT and the hit BBC1 series SPOOKS.”

My sentiments too.

He's not in the loathsome camp of Widdecombe - but he doesn't have the sharp wit of John Sargeant. His 'humour' if you can call it that is laboured and like many before him clearly rehearsed i.e. the banana 'joke.'

Personally I'm sick and tired of the beeb trying to clone JS - it can't be done.

Having said that Dave was invited to compete in SCD and has every right to be in the competition and remain there for as long as his supporters vote for him.

This happens pretty much every year. People go out who should have been there a couple of weeks more but nobody who would have won. Posters start getting worried that the comedy act might even win but they never do or even come close.

Dave may stay in for a few more weeks (or at least until the judges say 'Dave, that was your best dance so far, you actually did some of the steps') but when he is up against potential winners he will be bottom two, be voted off ('We'll miss you, Dave') and all will be right with the world

Personally, I can't stand the buffoon, but he is right to stay. At least this way I only have to see him once a week

no, why should he? Strictly is ultimately an entertainment show - Dave has every right to still be in the competition, if the public love him and keep voting for him why should he quit?
