The Queen Vic had a washing machine

Shock! Horror! Don’t tell Mr Opadopolous but it looks as if someone on Albert Square may own their own washing machine – or at least did have one. Watching the 1986 ‘ Ive got 6 months to live ‘ episode at the weekend we saw Den and Angie talking in the kitchen and could hear the washing machine. I think this is the first time we have ever seen anyone with their own.
Angie said to Den that she would be like Marilyn Monroe dieing young and wouldn’t end up old and wrinkly like Pat Wicks- and that was 1986! She said to Den ‘I wont see you get old and fat’. No thankfully for her she died before Leslie Grantham exposed himself on the net.
The window cleaner was funny when he kept interrupting them and knocked the phone over.

If I remember correctly, Ian Beale had a wshing machine for a very short while and it leaked all over the flat he lived in with (I believe) Cindy.

It's amazing that it doesn't matter how much money anyone has in Eastenders, no-one can aford a washing machine!! - not even the Beale empire

I think they can afford one but with a laundrette down the road they just save money.

Launderette's don't save money as anybody whose machine has brocken down will testify. The amount a weekly wash costs in one would more than cover the weekly repayments for a washer from the club book!

I will if the laundrette will expand in the future...maybe into a dishwashing service or steamie then no one will need baths or dishwashers or sinks. and it would be a great way for charactors to interact.

What they save on going to the laundrette, they can spend in the Queen Vic!! Also know-one can afford to work outside of Walford Square, so that's why it's hard to find work

Sonia works outside from the square as does Roise (she cleans at some posh place) and this new character Amanda. Also Johnny owns clubs all around London.

I'd say they'd flipping well need one in there. I used to run pubs - the amount of cloths and towels we'd get through in a day and usually wearing at least two sets of clothes every day - we'd never have been out of the laundrette if we didn't have a machine. And the brewery would never have paid for it either!

Actually...

Who in Coronation Street own's a washing machine? You never see them putting a load in or taking a load out?

Will have to watch Corrie very carefully and look at the kitchens to see who own's one!
