Leaking Fish Tank
MsWilder11

Hi, I'm wondering if there's anybody here that can give me any pointers with this problem:

I've noticed that water is slowly seeping out and pooling around the bottom corner of my fish tank. The glass isn't cracked at all and I have no idea where or why it's started to leak. I don't know how to go about tracing the source of the leak or trying to repair the tank (if I even can) as I assume I'd have to drain it; but what do I do with the fish in the meantime?

Is it worth trying to repair the tank or should I just get a new one and hope that my current one will hold until a new one is cycled?

Does it have a lift off hood or a fixed hood?

You can lift the hood right off

it could be condensation collecting under the hood then escaping down the back, what kind of tank is it?

It's a Hagen Marina tank, appx 35L

Looks like this

ED - I've had it for a year and a half and nothing like this has ever happened before. It makes me think that something's 'gone' but I don't know what

Sorry I am transferring this info to hubby as he has worked in aquatics forever. He is saying hagan stuff is usually guaranteed for 3 years but glass only a year. He thinks the silicone around the tank might be damaged if the glass isn't cracked. Some fish nibble away at the silicon. He says the only way to stop it is to empty it out, clean it and re-silicon it. The Hagen guarantees are only valid if you have the tank on their stands.

Didn't know that about the silicon, thanks for that nugget of info! Ohhhh, I was afraid I'd have to do something like that I've nowhere else to put the fish, that's what's stopping me from trying to fix it - which is why I was thinking of getting up a new tank for them.

He says the sealer wont stick to it while it is wet, no matter what kind you use. Do you have a friendly local fish shop who might be able to keep your fish in one of their tanks while you sort your tank? I know he has done that for people in the past.

Well, the shop I get my fish from is local(ish), but I'm not confident that they'd take them. I suppose I could give it a shot though, no harm in asking. If not, then I'll probably have to get a new tank cycling ASAP.
