I have a slightly different problem. I can access my YouTube account, but I can't seem to leave comments though. I get a pop up asking me to update my account with more options, but the sackless thing won't even show what these extra options are. Why can't bloody Google just leave well alone? I could strangle them at times, though not literally.

absolutely, theyare a pain in the ass, messing with a winning formula and just making it more difficult for people, i dont want a google plu account at all, but its made me have one, you can temporarily disable it but it makes you have it again in order to use youtube properly, now they changed the reply thing on comments. Its like they are hell bent on breaking up the youtube community

It's dreadful what they have done, the Google and Youtube Facebook pages are in rage mode.

Google has destroyed Youtube.

It's the comments change that has made the final blow.

It's an impossible force making you merge you YouTube and Google+ account.

I keep clicking no. I'm not interested.

Blame it on the Doctor Who cybermen, they were the ones who destroyed YouTube!

Yeah - I found the focus is all up the chute - have to open the Google+ comment frame in a new tab in order to type a comment...

They need to revert that change damn quickly.

I have decided I'm just not going to comment or participate anymore I'll watch the videos but that's it, I don't want to be forced onto google+ in order to participate on Youtube, and I can't anyway as I don't see the options because the UI is messed up like the other poster says above.

I hate how google is forcing users to make a Google + account to be able to use Youtube. That's very low and something should be done about it! I had my google + account and then I deleted it two years ago. Now, after google has updated it's terms of service, after I agreed to the terms, my old G+ account that I had deleted "fully" has just re-appeard again. We should have an Internet watch dog that tracks big companies terms and conditions and regulates it, especially when it comes to social media giants such as Google and Facebook.

Do you actually have to use the Google+ account in order to comment on YouTube? If not, then could you allow the system to create the Google+ account for you but never actually use it?

Yes, that's what I did. Actually, that's what Google did. It created a brand new Google + profile that is now also being used on Youtube for comments and likes. By default, if you didn't uncheck it, it automatically shares your Youtube likes and comments on Google +. Who knows what else it does just to keep advertisers happy If it wasn't for Youtube, I'd kill my google account altogether.

I think Google's trouble is that they're wanting all of their products to be the ones that get used most by people, and their way of trying to get this to happen is to force them on people who are a member of one of their services. Google have to realise that not everyone will want to use all of their products, but only some.

Edit: Well, that's it. As long as Google carry on with this stupidity, I'll just have to stick to watching videos only. I've no idea how to make whatever's on the second step of that pop-up appear. Actually, after looking at Google+, I'm getting the impression that they're wanting me to change my username to my actual name if I want to leave comments. If so, how utterly childish is that?

I think Google are going a bit too far with this. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of YouTube users just stop using it because of Google's constant and unnecessary changes. Or should I say, fiddling.

I use duckduckgo for searching the Internet, and have recently switched from gmail to german-based gmx.net mail. Very happy with the decisions I've made so far. When you move away from using Google for most of the stuff online, surfing the Internet seems much nicer with no intrusive ads and plethora of spam. It's as it used to be back in the 90's when people used Altavista and Lycos clean and simple.

What, so the fact that a lot of people see adverts when surfing is because they're signed in to one of Google's products?

That's right. Try using some other (less known) search engine and e-mail, and you will see that the number of ads you see will reduce. The only reason we see so many ads, is that we use Google and Facebook.

On my other (old) computer I never used Google nor was I signed in on Facebook and had very few ads which were bearable. Google is also spying on your e-mails, so If you write to your friend that today you tried a new Lindt chocolate with sea salt and you loved it, very soon you can expect to see Lindt ads all over your google services and on Facebook. Then, I have tried searching for something I'd never search for, a product I'd never be interested in, so I searched for L'Oréal lipsticks and I wrote a mail to self quoting that I bought the L'Oréal lipstick. Within hours, L'Oréal ads appeard on my google, gmail, youtube and facebook accounts. They are spying on our activities and selling it to advertisers!

When the pop-up first appears after clicking the comment box, I get a message asking me to choose either my real name or my username. After choosing my username, I then get a message in the same pop-up asking me the following: "More options for updating your channel". The trouble is though, nothing gets displayed on the pop-up for me to choose. I have to then click the cross and then YouTube displays a message that they'll ask me later.

THIS person did the same thing a couple of weeks ago and it destroyed her YT account and she lost all her subscribers which means she's lost a heap of revenue.

If you watch the series of video's about it you'll see how she dealt with it.
She didn't get her subscribers restored though, so she's still losing a heap of cash.

They updated my account to google bloody plus, too. I removed it later. In the process it set all my videos to private, which I had to set back to public, but at least it shuts up about going to the plus again.

If I was her, I would be seriously considering suing Google for the problem!
