People do seem genuinally excited for Gaga's 'ARTPOP' album...
I have to say (maybe I'm wrong) but on the forums at least, people do seem to anticipate the release of Gaga's new album. It seems people really want to get their hands on a copy or are holding out to avoid the leak until it's officially out wherever they are etc.
I've not seen that online for quite a while. That's a good thing for gaga I guess! |

Yeah, she may not be quite as big as she used to be, but anything significant she does is still regarded as an "event", which is somewhat unusual today.

I think people forget that she hasn't actually released that much music, two albums and an EP, not a extensive discography so I think people are still interested to see what she can do.

I think I will get slated for this and tons will disagree but I thought it then (2009) and I still think it, Gaga IS the ultimate popstar. She is just everything a popstar is and should be (in my opinion). I understand the backlash or disinterest in the Born This Way era for sure (for reasons I don't need to elaborate
) but she makes catchy (yet clever) pop songs, she creates a buzz and just looks the part. Now some may say "what's looking the part got to do with music?" but gaga has always said how image and sound go together in her eyes because of artists before her who did it, so she sort of....created it all and invested in it. |

Probably get abuse of the Gaga fans, but so what...isn't she just an imitation of Madonna, yet Madonna did it years ago. So if anyone is the ultimate popstar it is Madonna.

I will probably get slated for this also but I find Gaga much more likeable as a person than Madonna. Having said that, I actually think this hostile nature of Madonna has benefited her in her career, there is actually still an enigma around Madonna, no matter how much or less we see of her. With Gaga, she's kind of become quite exposed recently, more likeable with interviews etc. I don't even find their performance technique the same. |

Madonna is the ultimate female popstar I'd say, for sure. But I really don't see Gaga like Madonna at all if I'm honest. Although admittedly in The Fame era I can understand the comparisons, but now? No way.

Madonna's humour is just very dry, so you either get it or you don't. Plus she doesn't suffer fools and makes no secret of it. If anything the fact Madonna is honest makes her. People also underestimate how hard Madonna's young life was. She was hardened by the situations around her. You will be hard pushed to find anyone who has actually worked with her, slate her. Sure others who have crossed paths will bad mouth her but if you are that much of a bitch you don't stay at the top. Madonna has been at the top for 30 years. Tom Hanks is on record saying said she is one of the best people he has worked with in films yet films isn't even what Madonna is known for. Madonna also does a lot of charity work behind the scenes and doesn't expect credit for it. She just does it like Angelina without wanting attention. Madonna rarely does interviews so no one gets to know her this way. She only lets people see what they she wants them to see. Old school style and that's the reason Madonna is lauded as the last of the great superstars.
Madonna is the ultimate popstar that other popstars inspire to be like. Her legacy is all over the charts for us to see. Today on This Morning they were blaming Madonna for the sexualisation of the music video and laying it all at her door. That is what you describe as the ultimate popstar. Gaga is good at what she does however she is very self indulgent which is why people have such a problem with her and until 30 years down the line and she is still able to have tours breaking records and she has a legacy that is lasting. Only then you can say she is the ultimate popstar. I'm sure people said Britney and Christina were the ultimate popstars ten years ago. Just like they probably did Mariah and Janet in the 90s. etc You are only as big as the next trend. Case in point. I can remember just how massive the Spice Girls were. They were an event. Everyone knew who they were and everything about them. Now they, Part from Victoria, are Z listers. One Direction are in the same category. |

She's predicted to sell almost 3 times less albums (1 100 000 ---> 375 000) than BTW in US on her first week..So no people are not excited about her new album.

Madonna is a bitch. Very ambitious, witty, straightforward, vicious, sarcastic and domineering bitch. She was always that way, she never tried to hide it or pretend to be different.
Gaga on the other hand is always so sweet and kind, yet she often comes off as very self-absorbed and passive-agressive person who contradicts herself all the time. While people know exactly what to think about Madonna, they don't know what to think about Gaga. your assessment of both of them is pretty spot on from my prospective.back to the topic though, the fans are undoubtedly excited and she will no doubt have another big opening week sales with the new album, even though it wont match the opening week sales for "born this way" worldwide. the true test on whether there is actual excitement beyond her fanbase and her casual listeners will become more clear beyond the initial sales. gaga tends to over-hype her releases or tries to over-intellectualise her product and in turn her fans follow suit. hence the generic terms like she makes "clever pop" or she "pushes boundaries", which is very tiresome and off putting for some would-be supporters, but it remains to be seen whether people will be put off at large. "do what you want" seemed to go down well upon release, so my guess is that people are open to gaga as long as the material is good. |

Don't forget she had that really tacky Amazon promotion that probably shifted most of that 1mil, she probably would have only sold about 650,000 full priced albums if that promotion had not been there

So true. I love how her fans often try to insult the taste and intellect of people who criticize her.
the generic "oh well, you liked the safe katy perry single" isn't an insult to me, because i do like the song, as did many others and it was a big pop hit this year.what really annoys me though is the way some of her fans repeat her pretentious descriptions of her products and attempt to "educate" people with what they should be thinking about her music. when she jokingly (i assume) announced she doesn't make music for the chart, her fans were repeating that everywhere. somehow, i don't fully believe she meant that and her fans certainly seemed interested in her charting potential prior to that....

beyond Gaga's (shrinking) fanbase I don't think anyone really cares. Most people are just getting sick of the sight of her in their morning papers every day looking ludicrous in some outfit or other. That she can't get anywhere near a UK #1 single now speaks volumes.

Who are we talking about exactly? The "general public" don't really care about album releases. Of the music buying/interested public I'd say ARTPOP is as anticipated as a major release typically would be. I do think there's generally a positive attitude toward the ARTPOP material. More so than there was with BTW. Give it a few weeks though when the charts/sales are out. Peoples opinions will alter depending. ![]() Quote:

![]() for me personally, with the last album, i bought it on the strength of "the edge of glory" and there were other good tracks on the album for me too. this time around though, i like "do what you want", but not enough to buy the album and now that it has leaked, i cant see me changing my mind. i think personally, the record company needs to pick the singles wisely and once the quarter 4 has passed, she could score a big hit early next year with the right single, perhaps featuring an additional collaboration. |

The "general public" don't really care about album releases. They cared enough to shift 73,000 odd copies of Eminem's new album in 24 hours, no? If they like the artist, they care. |

I'm not so sure, tbh. People were more excited for BTW I think. I remember the big build up it had. I only bought BTW cause Born This Way, Edge of Glory and You and I were all fantastic, but the rest of the album was shit. The only song I like on this - after listening to the leak - is Applause.
