How old is Nick Cotton?
When the show began it was mentioned that Nick was 33 hence born in 1952- the same year as John Altman who plays Nick. But he seems to have gotten younger over the years- the James Bond effect as I call it.
Usually in a soap a character ages quickly- soap opera rapid ageing syndrome I believe its called. When Nick was feuding with Mark he spoke about when they went to school together which means Nick must have been born in the late 60s. And at Lynne’s hen party Dot said that in 1953 she was courting Charlie and married him later on. So it seems that they have reduced his age by about 15 years- hardly plausible is it? Although John Altman looks a lot younger than he really is. |

Nick Cotton normally comes back every 3 to 4 years so should be about to make a short comeback soon I would think

When I saw that episode where they said he was 33 (EE reruns in NZ), I was like huh? Coz even though I knew the actor was that age at the time, I thought he was playing Nick more as a twenty something than as 33.

Continuity errors like this in soaps really bug me, I mean it's not hard to keep basic facts correct.

yes they messed up with Pauline and Petes birthday. We have been told many times that they were born in 1945 but for the Civvy Street 1940s special Lou had three kids and it was only 1940.......which would suggest Pauline and Pete were born in 1935.

Hannah Martin in Neighbours was born 18 months before her parents Phil and Julie met, so it happens worldwide !

So often you see old pop stars and actresses from the 80's now and they look 100% better and 10 years younger than they did then. |

Have always thought Sharon looked a bit strange. Struggling to think of any lookers on EE though!

1) Nick is considerably older than Mark Fowler: In 1985, Mark, Ian, Micelle and Sharon were all 15/16. Nick was a good ten years older than them - pushing 30 if not quite 33.
2) In the Civvy Street special, Lou did have three children, none of whom were called Peter or Pauline, implying they may have had siblings who died. 3) In different episodes shown years apart, Pauline and Arthur relayed the same tale of how he proposed to her - at her sisters wedding. This is the only time a sister was mentioned - I know about the long-lost sister in Ireland, but she only found out about her in recent years, so she must have had another older sister who got married and was never mentioned again. |

When Eastenders started in 1985, one of the first storylines was Pauline's pregnancy. It was definately said she was 40 and that was a concern as well as the Fowler's financial state of affairs.
Pete died in 93, which would have made him 48. I don't remember a 50th party. |

I'm sure that Lou Beale had more kids though. She had 5 not including the one she gave up. Thing is, I can't find any of them, but back in the 80s they had a series of fiction books out, there was one called 'swings and roundabouts', it was the prequal to Eastenders and detailed what went before. Seem to remember another daughter of Lou's called Doris and another kid, can't remember who though.

On the BBC’s Enders website under the Beale's Family section it does list an elder son of Lou's called Ronnie (deceased) – has he ever been mentioned before?
PS – All the people in me office were just getting down to “Come On Eileen” (just thought I’d mention the tedious 80’s link). |

In the first EE episode, shown the other day, Ian, Michelle and Mark are approx 15/16/17, and Nick Cotton is a good ten years older than them. That would make him aroundabout late 40s or 50-ish now. About time he stopped becoming such a pantomime villain, really.
