It's not just a batch, it's all of them. There was an error in the authoring of the disc that can cause some DVD players to lock up.

If anyone has problems, the way to get around it is to enable the alternate effects via the DVD menu screen. That sets the necessary software flag that was forgotten about, and after that you can just disable the setting again if you don't want them.

Sorry.

Should have specified that it's all R2/R4 copies that are affected. Not just a single batch of R2/R4 copies.

R1 buyers got lucky for a change

That could work. Especially if it was BBC worldwide doing the releases as hey could use recons for the non animated missing episodes.

Is it possible if they ever did that it would be released on blu-ray? I know the quality difference wont be there, but i think you can fit about 20 episodes on a disk?

Not keen on sets from different eras.

That's very much what I would like to see too. It's the most cost effective, shelf-yard saving way to do it. It might become commercially viable. Eventually. When they think they've sold all the single story DVDs to everyone who would buy them. It's what typically happens to TV series on disc - even those much younger than classic Doctor Who.

Yeah, I used to have the list of DVDs that I thought they would put out Special Editions of, but they seemed to end those, so I stopped keeping it at the bottom of the release list. I really hope that they eventually release them so that they can not only fix video and DVD mistakes of past releases, but so that they can also fill in gaps in the future DVD releases while we wait for them to animate/restore the rest of the serials.

In the new copy of DWM the coming soon review of the web of fear says the doctor who range launched 15 years ago is set to come to a conclusion with the release of the underwater menace sometime later this year. The restoration team are proud of some of their efforts particularly the restoration of planet of the daleks to colour and the extended versions of curse of fenric and battlefield. They would like to make a better edit of silver nemesis and there are titles which could be improved but not enough to justify reissues. Also physical media sales are dying off. The article concludes with a musing that the range seems to have reached an end and can only hope that Philip morris can turn up some more treasures. So it looks like unless any more episodes are found there will be no more classic doctor who releases after web and underwater menace unless more episodes are found.

What month/number issue is this? I might pick it up for the article.

Personally after collecting for 9 years I'm looking forward to the range being done and having a complete collection of every existing episode currently in the bbc archive on my shelf at last.

I'm still hoping they bring out special editions of The Web of Fear and The Enemy of the World with a full set of extras. Also hoping that there's still at least a little more truth in the omnirumour even if it's just a handful of orphan episodes from completely missing stories. If TIEA don't have any more episodes there is still hope of finds in the future with a lot of people in the hunt actively searching currently.

The dvds I think could be improved. Picture quality-dalek invasion of earth, city of death. Movie edit version-silver nemeis. Optional cgi effects-revenge of the Cybermen. With extras-web of fear, enemy of the world. Completed by animation-web and the crusade. They are just of the top of my head, I am sure there are others that could be improved but very unlikely to happen now.

Well, today is February 11th and I will be picking up my copy of The Moonbase on DVD (along with Sherlock Series 3 on Blu-Ray which releases today as well as a St. Valentine's Day Present for my wife).

Anyways, with The Moonbase being released here in the USA, that changes the list to:

The Web of Fear: UK: February 24th, US April 22nd
The Underwater Menace: UK: ?, US: ?
The Enemy of the World: US: ?
An Adventure in Space and Time: US: ?

Y'all Brits have The Web of Fear being released over there on the 24th. After that, hopefully the USA will catch up with y'all over the next few months with The Web of Fear, The Enemy of the World and An Adventure in Space and Time being released over here while we all wait for The Underwater Menace sometime, hopefully, later this year.

Man, the list is getting very short. I do hope that they find some more of the missing episodes to release so that we can add to this list. (Or, as we were talking about above, add some special editions to clean up some stuff while we wait for the other finds).

I can completely understand that, but wouldn't you also love if it went on for another couple of years because they were finding more and more of the missing episodes (and also possibly cleaning up some of the old ones)?

On a slightly related note:

I only started collecting in 2012, so I still have quite a ways to go in order to complete my collection. I have the first two Doctors complete (well, everything that has been released, I will pick up the others as they are released). I have most of the 4th and 6th Doctors. I have almost none of the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th or 10th Doctors. I have all of the 9th and 11th Doctors. Basically, I am about halfway through collecting. The DVD line ending now (especially when it takes DVDs out of print) only makes it harder for me to complete my collection.

I never noticed the glitch on the original DVD.

Im guessing it was fixed on the SE.

I will be glad when the range has finally finished. I started when the five doctors original dvd release started and have tried patiently not to watch them yet as I want the range to be over and then do a marathon.

Ive watched a few selected titles but apart from that holding off so I can watch in order like I did when the VHS stuff came out alough with them I did watch them as I bought them.

Blimey that's quite impressive! When do you think you will begin your marathon viewing? Once Underwater Menace has been released or will you hold out in case anymore missing episodes are discovered?

The plan is to hold out until Menace has been released alough depends when and if we get missing episodes. I reckon we will but just depends what gets released.

Mind you if we hear nothing on any missing stuff by end of the year then I may start then.

I have noticed that over the past couple of years more and more people are getting annoyed at all the major dr who forum sites like GB, OS and all the other superpower sites. People being expelled because they dare to have an opinion is simply not acceptable. Well, me and a few other people are at this moment discussing a major new site we want to make. It's an alternative to those sites. It's possible that at some point in the future it could even over take Gallifrey Base and all the others because of one simple reason: It's new. http://whovianbooks.weebly.com/discussion-page.html

Look at the newest comments and you will see what i am on about. (this isn't the site i am linking you to, this is just where we are discussing it)

If anybody wants to join us and create a party of there own it would be great!

Well you have Planet Mondas and my site which is basically a copy of GB except I allow free speech.
