Just wandering, now that BBC worldwide are in control of the range, does anyone else think they might start releasing all the missing episodes onto DVD with loose-cannon style reconstructions? They would probably just be vanilla releases but for the completeness sake, is it something they'd do?

Well, I just ordered Black Orchid ($40), Frontios ($50) and Time-Flight ($50) which are all out of print. I am dead broke, but I am trying to pick up the out-of-print stuff before they become stupidly expensive.

A couple of them already are; the only new copy of Earthshock on Amazon is listed for $7,422 and the cheapest new copy of The Two Doctors is listed for $3,708.

I hope that I can finish out the rest of the DVDs before everything goes out of print. I am really, really hoping that the finishing of the DVD range takes as long as possible so that I have a chance to play catch up as it is happening.

I doubt it, but that would be awesome.

I don't think that they would proceed with such a move (if they ever did such a thing at all) until they finish with any more found episodes.

Steve Roberts is already saying he believes Marco Polo has been found by Phil.

I bet you anything that 22nd February it will be announced. Not only is it the screening of those 2 episodes, but what better time to announce it that on it's 50th anniversary!

I agree. They will wait see what Phil has first
then decide.

agreed I can't stand these new formats like itunes and tablets. I want to watch it on my TV screen and to go with the rest of my DVD collection. Also, the content of these programmes would sell better on DVD because that is how more of the elder fans prefer that platform.

Some modern fans probably don't want to watch old black and white Troughton stories.

I don' see why people can't just watch the black and white stories one of the best episodes "The Chase" is Black and White.

It is perfectly possible to watch iTunes on your TV. You either a need a Smart TV, an Apple TV or an HDMI adapter cable and an iPhone or iPad. You could even hook a laptop up to the TV with the right cable.

Having said that, when it's all about the collection and you have all the others on DVD, no way would I not get the DVD even if I already watched it on iTunes!

When I was younger I didn't watch much black and white but as I grew older I watch a lot more because its "new" to me and there is some great black and white movies that I haven't seen before.

Give me black and white over CGI effects anyday!!

Why would they announce that when the Easter announcement is coming. Wouldnt make sense to reveal Marco now if they have a big announcement to make in a months time.

Why don't you order from the UK and get a region free DVD player?

Or can you region-unlock your DVD player? I have just donet hat to mine, and it's terribly exciting. After all, Earthshock is good, but it's not worth seven and a half thousand dollars.

Well I don't buy films/tv series from itunes myself, but I am in a minority. I am sure that considering how long we have watited for the release of those episodes I am sure a little bit more time would have not hurt.

Anyway I hope they release a SE Edition of some form in the neat future...

Why have they gone out of print?

Ahh, this is what I was trying to warn about, particularly the early releases (2003 to 2005) that haven't been repackaged/ re-released.

There will come a time, even in the home of Who, the UK, where stores will run out of certain stories & there won't be any new runs as demand will be too low to bother.

Here in Australasia "The Two Doctors" is definitely not available any more & I think The Curse of Fenric maybe now too.

Others have suggested buying online from another region -it maybe your only option (unless you pay way over the top prices there in the States).

As kindly suggested to me, I got The Two Doctors & The Dalek Invasion of Earth for under 20 pounds from the BBC store (with a 10% purchase off -being my first purchase). Shipping to here in NZ turned out slightly more than the 2 DVD's together(!), but all up, still works out slightly less than what I would have paid in the stores (if both still there).

Think that is the special edition of day of the doctor. I have been following the thread on gallefrey base. Looks like the science of doctor who, the ultimate guide and cinema trailers have been cleared to be on it. There is some doubt that the five ish doctors reboot will be cleared though.

Holding back the releases further to add extras is moot anyway as those involved with producing extras in the classic dvd range (dan hall and pupltd) contract ended and wasn't renewed.

So it's a DOTD SE with all the extra's from the other release plus some of the programs? (and possibly 5ish doctors)

If that's the case, it would have been good to have added the time of the doctor with it's special features and AAISAT with all it's special features just to make it complete.

I was hoping that it was so that they could bring out Special Editions of these titles, but it looks more and more as if it is the beginning of the end of the DVD range. Here is a list of what has been taken out of print:

Quote:
“Starring WILLIAM HARTNELL
The Rescue/The Romans The Web Planet The Time Meddler
The Gunfighters

Starring PATRICK TROUGHTON
The Invasion The War Games

Starring JON PERTWEE
Terror of the Autons The Time Monster Planet of the Spiders

Starring TOM BAKER
None.

Starring PETER DAVISON
Black Orchid Earthshock* Time-Flight The Awakening
Frontos Planet of Fire

Starring COLIN BAKER
The Mark of the Rani The Two Doctors

Starring SYLVESTER McCOY
Battlefield Ghost Light The Curse of Fenric”

I don't understand why they would phase out some of the titles before they have all been released, but they have.

They should hire these guys back for another year or two so that they can do special features for all of the newly found material (and hopefully the stuff which has already been found but has yet to be announced).
