I knew that some DVDs would be deleted, so I was determined to buy each one as soon as it was released.

The same happened with the VHS releases. The Hand of Fear was only available for a few weeks before it and all the previous VHSs were taken off-sale, just as the McGann movie was announced.

For ages, Hand was only available for megabucks. Likewise, The Daemons and The Invasion could only be found at a premium price, having been deleted.

I paid £50 for the hand of fear vhs in paramount book exchange in Manchester many years ago. I later got a free dvd copy of the story from 2entertain as a sweetener for having to replace my faulty invisible enemy dvd. I have long since chucked the vhs away. Such is the circle of life.

The funny part is that I may have to use old used VHS tapes to band-aid over the empty spots in my collection if I cannot find the DVDs at a (semi-)reasonable price.

I paid £2.00 for the Invasion at a car boot sale in the late 90's. A real Bargain!!

Well it is 7 and a half hours of extras!

Is this "50th Anniversary" DVD basically a mega boxset of every single Dr Who DVD and Audio release?

Why would they release a special edition of TDOTD when they already released it on DVD/Blue-Ray a few months ago?

Anyway if true, it is very good news...

Well thanks to the whatever has been found, it was clearly a bit rash...

Agreed, espcially for Marco Polo if the rumours are true...

As Dan hall and pup ltd last contracted commision was back in 2011 not really rash. At the end of the day extras are just that. They are extra and not main feature and the most important thing .

I got Inferno for three quid in a charity shop, and could only find it elsewhere for big money. Very pleasing.

I got loads of the VHS sleeves signed by sundry cast and crew, so have removed and stored the sleeves and given the unsleeved VHS tapes to charity shops now. I've only got one or two VHSs left. I can remember the excitement of buying Day of the Daleks on VHS at the age of ten, from W H Smiths in Brighton, when I was on a family holiday. All a long time ago now. As Bennythedip says, this is the circle of life ...

I remember my brother and I buying Revenge of Cybermen and Day of teh Daleks from a mail order company called John Fitton in the mid 80's and paying alomost 40 quid for them. But we watched them again and again and again. I think thats why I will always have a soft spot for these two plus Pyrmaids and Death to the Daleks because they came out first and we were really excited by them. I also have a soft spot for Brain of Morbius which was available to rent in teh early 80's a 60 minute version of the story. My brother and I basically rented it every month

I got Death to the Daleks when I was quite wee, and loved it. I hadn't seen it for years when it came out on DVD, and it's still great fun. The chanting Exxilons and the scream that the "root" creature makes both make me shudder to this day.

So a couple of months before s8. In line with how American shows release season sets. Not too long before the next season starts.

Lucky you. I paid 60 quid for invasion off ebay about 10 years ago.

So I watched Terror of the Autons the other night and it was pretty good. I like that version of The Master. The guys with the big heads were creepy. Also, it was the first appearance of Jo (who seemed quite the ditzy blonde) and it was the first time that I had seen her. I am just starting to purchase the Third Doctor (Spearhead From Space on Blu-Ray was such a great way to start with him).

Overall, I liked it. And I love The Doctor's car; I want one of those.

O.k... I tried seeing if I could play a Region 2 DVD on my PS3 (I have several Region 2 DVDs because I am a Mike Oldfield fan as well). It says that the PAL video system (UK - 620 lines) was not supported. It even said this after I changed the home area to the United Kingdom. While people in the UK can switch to the NTSC format (Region 1 - USA - 540 lines) much more easily since it has fewer lines, the stuff over here won't recognize the PAL format due to the higher number of lines.

It looks like this option simply won't work for me.

You need a PAL DVD player. Most NTSC players will not play PAL, but most PAL DVD players will play NTSC. They may be locked to a region, but these are easy to unlock.

Also DVD drives in PC's are usually capable of reading both without a region check, so try your PC / laptop.

My copy of web of fear arrived this morning from the BBC shop. I can confirm episode 3 is just the reconstruction. At least got 5 episodes of the story to watch though.
