Is there a list of DVDs with updated special effects and/or remastered episodes?

Seems like the right place to ask

That's a much better price for the 50th, thanks.

Available to preorder anywhere?

Sweet.

I picked up four DVDs yesterday (pulling my August purchases forward into July in order to take further advantage of the Doctor Who sale at my local Barnes and Nobles): Colony in Space (Pertwee), Time and the Rani (McCoy), Dragonfire (McCoy) and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy (McCoy).

While I still have a couple of the DVDs from the last purchase which I have not watched, but I watched Time and the Rani tonight.

Overall, it was very odd. It suffered from a regeneration scene lacking Colin Baker, the Rani dressing and acting as Mel for an entire episode was very creepy, nobody seemed to be able to navigate the stairs and Mel lived. I found it to be fairly weak. I liked it better once the Rani stopped playing Mel, but overall, it isn't one of my favorites. The addition of computer special effects was interesting. The serial was well produced special effects wise (minus the Colin Baker wig on McCoy). Also, the citadel was gorgeous. The serial was pretty, but, for such a large idea and premise, it seemed to play out in such a small fashion.

P.S. The best scene was McCoy trying on the outfits of his predecessors. That was hilarious.

Time and the rani was very poor. I watched it at the time and it put me off that much I did not watch the rest of the season. I did not come back until remembrance of the daleks. There is a nice extra or easter egg which shows Colin baker regenerating into sylvester mccoy on the time of the rani dvd.

I quite enjoy Time & the Rani now, but hated it when I was a very serious teenager and it was first transmitted.

The effects work really is glorious: the bubble traps are a fantastic idea. Pip and Jane Baker have plenty of great ideas in their scripts, and they also use the companion quite effectively. Yes, Mel screams a lot and faints a lot, but she also unwires the leg-bomb thingies and saves the Lakertyans. P&JB always make sure the companion has decent stuff to do: in Mark of the Rani, they remember that Peri is a botanist so send her off to make sleeping draughts I(and get caught up in the Rani's evil traps while she's at it).

Oh, and Kate O'Mara can do no wrong, in my book.

Colony in Space, on the other hand ...

It's weird that we've waited so long for this and yet the 8th series, that's not even aired yet, you can pre-order!?”

You're a star! I'd been refreshing the BBC shop page for ages but obviously not looking in the right place. This is the perfect collection imo, I especially love the five-ish doctors and the proms (since I was there!). I'll be able to free a few GB off my PVR now!

Not seen it anywhere else so far. Not on Amazon.co.uk, for example. I googled for BBC promo codes and found none current.

I believe the promo code for the rest of the month is RP0714 , so the blu ray will only be around £28!

Is this a UK exclusive? Is it locked to Bluray region B?

It's region free and you can order it to the states directly from the BBC shop.

Thanks saved £2.90 there. With selling my original copies of day(which was a christmas present was going to wait) and time this is costing me less than £20 which is a bargain.

I ordered the blue ray version. Don't even own a blue ray player. Looks a nice collection!

As I already have most of this on Bluray - but not Adventure or the Five(ish) Doctors. I grudge having to buy everything again just for one tiny part of it...

I don't know about the UK but the North American Blu-ray release is region free.

Good point! However, no independent release for the five(ish) doctors though..

O.k.... I just ordered two copies: one for myself and one for a friend for Christmas. I hope that it is not Region locked as you said. Now I need to figure out what to do with my duplicate Blu-Rays. LOL!

Just watched my Sensorites DVD. The story is okay (although bit strange that you never see the bad Sensorite get his comeuppance), but the Looking for Peter documentary is brilliant and quite moving

Oh yes, one of the best, if not THE best, extras of all time.

Love the 50th anniversary set. Was beginning to think it had been abandoned.

I just finished watching Dragonfire and, I must say that, it was a load of bunk.

The only good thing was that Mel left. Everything else was really bad.

Is there any reason whatsoever to like Ace? She lies a lot, she hates her parents (disowns them completely simply because they named her Dorothy), she is horrible at her job, hates all authority and she likes to blow up things. Seriously, I can't find any reason whatsoever to like her. I've now seen her introduction and I still can't find any reason to like her. LOL!

Eidt: Oh, though it was cool to recognize Magenta.
