O.k... so I have picked up a bunch of Classic Doctor Who DVDs in the past month: The Keeper of Trakin, Castrovalva, Mawdren Unedead, Terminus, Enlightenment, The Planet of Evil and (the not classic series) The Sarah Jane Adventures Season 3.

I have watched The Keeper of Trakin last night and Logopolis tonight. It was nice to see the regeneration of Tom Baker into Peter Davison. However, I don't understand at all The Watcher bit. Is that explained in Castrovalva or is it not explained at all? It didn't make much sense to me. :/

I do like that incarnation of The Master, though.

By the way, is there any news whatsoever about next years releases? The Underwater Menace or Series 1-4 on Blu-Ray? I haven't seen any release dates for anything as of yet.

It's never really explained fully but the idea is that he's a kind of pseudo-projection of the Doctor's subsequent regeneration acting as some kind of aid to the regenerative process.

There was a similar thing in Planet of the Spiders where Cho Je turned out to be a kind of projection of the Abbot's next regeneration.

Ah, I haven't watched Planet of the Spiders as of yet. I'll get there.

Thanks so much.

Wasn't The Watcher about six inches taller than the Fifth Doctor, though?

Not that I noticed. I'd say it was a continuity error, if so!

Actually, I think I might have found the release date on the Wiki page. Whether it is actually true with the lack of news coverage is unknown but it sounds like a realistic date.

I guess UWM depends on whether Phil Morris has found more or not. Maybe it'll be realised in 100 years when I'm dead.

The "missing episodes" thread has a link to an article that claims to sum up the current situation on UWM and other missing stories, and explain the omnirumour.

Don't hold your breath for UWM.

They may as well get um released as it is just to get it out there. This missing episode fiasco could run on after we have all gone. Tbh im not bothered if its animated or recon anymore, just want to see ep 2 and whatever features are ready to go.

It is currently not showing a release date at the moment, though. Or am I misreading it?

There was a date showing but no source had been provided so someone else has removed it.

I know it's not related to the thread, but seeing as series 8 has just ended, does anyone else feel annoyed at how the master is now a woman? I mean, she was a good actress, but the master is a guy. I just couldn't imagine Roger Delgado or Antony kissing the doctor or acting like that. In my opinion, it has ruined the character. I was hoping for a surprise revel at the end of the episode that missy wasn't the master, just a puppet of the real one (maybe Charles Dance or someone).

I mean, how exactly did it benefit the story making the master a woman? It's just thrown fuel at the fire of feminists and female doctor supporters who for some reason want time lords to change gender.

This ll seems very politically correct.

I would have much preferred the missy character to have been the rani. Missy seemed a totally different character to the john simm version of the master.

Just you wait until Kapellmeister gets here

( not that I hope this becomes too much of a tangent in this place of refuge )

John Simm seemed totally different to the Delgado version of the Master, Peter Capaldi seems totally different to the Partrick Troughton and Matt Smith versions of the Doctor. Regeneration mean's they change who the are completely (They retain the same nature of being good or evil), not just a few new tweaks and a different body.

It was June 2015. But nothing to back up that date.

I'm hoping that Missy REALLY is the Rani and she lied and said she was the Master so The Doctor who know it was really Her. Doubt it but It would be nice if it played out that way!

Big Finish now have Siobhan Redmond as the Rani, so does the Beeb officially recognise her too, so Missy would have to stay as the Master?

Because there are no classic dvd releases to talk about anymore. There is not much left to talk about until the underwater menace gets an official release date. In the meantime I am sure theophlle does not mind a bit of off topic discussion on his thread.

I don't mind at all; most of the off topic discussion has been started by myself. Besides, it is just about time to start the 2015 thread, now that I think about it.

What could be released next year?

The Underwater Menace, Series 9 and the Blu-Ray releases of Series 1-4 is literally all that I can think of which has a chance at being released (barring a major announcement about more found episodes). That would be a really, really slim release schedule. What do y'all think?

I've given up on the new stuff and haven't seen Missy / New Master.

Watched Planet of Evil the other night. A great little story, sadly overlooked. Anyone else have thoughts on it?
