After cruelly being axed from ITV2, when it was one of their top rated shows (but expensive as an import), Five have axed Sunset Beach due to a "poor" performance in the morning schedule.

They aren't even half way through showing what they paid for.

Please contact Five and tell them we want to save Sunset Beach!

I think every should contact them and suggest they show the remaining episodes, even if just in the middle of the night.

I was told "it didn't do what it was supposed to" by the five CSR. With "probably no chance" of it coming back.

We need to just face facts. Schedulers are scum. A loyal audience isn't what they are after. It's all a numbers game for ratings to sell advertising space. Not only don't they care if someone tunes in week after week or in the case of SB day after day but they are actually destroying their audiences. The Shield which they had a large number of complaints about was jumped around the schedules and pulled for a plastic surgery show. On ITV they have just pulled Ultimate Force. Apparently 4 episodes being too much of a commitment for their schedulers to make for a loyal audience. If you want to write to the station great. I encourage as many people as possible to.

Only don't just ask for the show to come back. Make the point that by starting to show a multi-part series/soap and then dropping it they are only ensuring that you won't watch any of their shows. This has gone beyond the fate of any one individual show. The channels have to be told that treating the viewers as dirt just means we will go elsewhere. If we just keep going back for more it only encourages them to treat us like s**t.

How many shows do they have to cancel before you just stop watching?

I think this has to do with the fact that Trisha isn't doing as well as what they thought in the 2:35pm slot, and they are using Sunset Beach as an excuse so they can then move Trisha to the 10:00am slot, that way they would rival ITV1's Trisha.

Five know that Trisha would get better ratings at 10:00 than at 2:35.

I can't beleive Five would do this. It makes me so mad after all that they paid to buy the eps that they'er going to pull the plug. It makes no sence except to move Trisha.

Well we always knew that once Trisha came to FIVE that she was going to cause a problem in some way or another. Why can't the dumb bitch just stay on ITV.

I know what you mean. I think she's going to cause more problems if she doesn't get the ratings at 10:00am. I used to like Trisha, but now she's the reason that Sunset is going so I don't like her no more. If only ITV1 had offered her more money than Five.

And why can't Five just axe those horrible reality shows and stick Trisha on then. Sunset does better than them.

Whilst I disagree about SB being axed slagging of Trisha is hardly fair, hardly her fault that SB wasnt pulling in the ratings.

But thats just it, SB has good ratings. They'er not like how they were a few years ago, but for re-runs at 10.00am they are good. So the ratings arn't really the problem.

Exactly...It's because FIVE wants a better timeslot for Trisha cos she aint getting the ratings in the current slot and they are losing money in production costs obviously! Damn FIVE! It's like when they cancelled Days of our LIves due to "ratings", then replaced it with Charlie's Angels!!! I'm sure that didn't get as many viewers by far! But did they care...no cos it was cheap!

The problem is the viewers who 5 want to get to watch it are probably watching something on chanel 4's/itv/bbc's daytime lineup or there waiting for countdown to come on. They need to wait until there are no more tirsha episodes being shown on itv/itv2. The itv trisha will be going soon and they will use her show then i.e at 10am to pull in the 1/2 milion who used to watch it on itv, they will at least at 10am with trisha pull in around 500000. To me trisha is on the wrong channel, she wpould suit channel 4 who have a strong evening lineup where could fit her in i.e 4-5pm.

Well presumabely ITV will be getting a replacement for Trisha which will be a rival for Five so would they really want the 2 shows going head to head?

Five should have done what TV3 did in Ireland. When Sunset Beach came to the end of its original run, they repeated the show again only they didn't go from the very first episode. Instead they started from where the show began to get good and where ratings had risen during the first run. This meant that new viewers were getting into it from the point where it started the legendary crazy plots and didnt have to sit through months of pretty pedestrian US daytime soap shenanigans that were seen when the show began.

But trisha has that loyal following(i can't seeing them gettting a replaceemnt as good), look at richard and judy who's audince followed when they went to channel 4 and faced being up against tv heavyweights such as neighours, the weakest link and have survived.
Just look at 5pm you have two chat shows up against each other, both on around 2/2.5 milion(each getting around 15%), channel 4 richard and judy has managed to go head to head with des and mel and win the ratings battle each night. Five did the same when they snapped up Home and Away and are the same channel who tried to acquire the bill on itv when its contract was up for renewal.
All five are intresed in is increasing audience share in slots where it has the chance too.(channel 4/5 are relying on the decline in audience share of i.e bbc1/bbc2)

this is where we heard the bad news http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...d.php?t=190744

someone has phoned channel 5 and has been told by them. i thought it was strange that it was not in the radio times listings for next week, but i assumed it was because the school holidays.

might be worth a try emailing channel 5 to see if they will change there mind as it was the fan support that helped to get them to consider showing it again

We can't blame Trisha. If five want to move Trisha to 10am, then they could easily just put SB on in the afternoon slot.

SAFRA.....sb would rate poorly in the afternoon! five want more than 500,000 viewers between 1pm-5.30pm, and theirs no way sb would get that.

In the morning five only want about 250,000 viewers, which is what THE WRIGHT STUFF gets! Poor sb is only pulling in 100,000 viewers and thats why its been axed

As I predicted, five are only interested in ratings! By the way, charlies angels got 450,000 viewers!

This is what I sent to '5' but I haven't had a reply yet.

Is it true that '5' is cancelling Sunset Beach as from next Monday 14th February?

If this is the case I implore you to reconsider your decision.

Sunset Beach has a very loyal fan base and is certainly worthy of a repreive.

Please continue to show Sunset Beach, at least the full 260 episodes that you have already bought.

After all, you brought it back due to popular demand and it would be a shame to let down Sunset Beach fans.

I'll post any reply here.

The Wright Stuff gets 160,000 and The Wright Stuff Extra gets 50,000.

Extreme Makeover which follows SB only added on 5,000 so it isn't the programmes on Five in the morning, it's the tough competition from other networks.

Family Affairs at 1.30 pm got 135,000.

Trisha at 2.30 pm - 390,000.

So between 100 and 200,000 for 10am is very good in my opinion.

Other Titbits.

In the category Children aged 4 - 15, Sunset Beach outperforms Family Affairs at 1.30pm by 5 times it's audience.

Sunset Beach is ahead of The Wright Stuff.

Don't you think that this is significant considering that about 99% of this audience won't be at home on a weekday at 10am? This is why Sunset Beach should be in a timselot that this audience could catch it? Perhaps why it performed so wel in the Saturday omnibus...
