Glenn Tillbrook Lives!
Took my girlfriend and her grown-up son to see Glenn Tillbrook last night... absolutely superb. It was an acoustic set, just him and a couple of guitars. Old tunes, new tunes and entertaining tales from his life in music. Plenty of time later to meet and greet his audience, and a splendid bonus in the form of a support act named Leslie Mendelson. Looks like Janis Ian, writes like Carole King, sings better than both.
If you remember Squeeze, and fancy a great night out, then check out the Interweb for tour dates. |

When I was a younger lad, my mum dragged me out to see this wonderful chap play an acoustic set, and I am so glad she did as it was a magnificent evenings entertainment. An underrated artist in today's scene who's done his fair share of classic tunes.

Saw him about two years ago and it was one of the best gigs I've seen.
Me and some mates went for a couple of beers afterwords and Tillbrook and band turned up. We had a cracking night out with them all. |

Hmmm... I'm a bit strapped for cash but £19.50 sounds reasonable for a show of this standard.
The first Squeeze song I heard was This Summer, adored it then and do still - I disliked all the Blur/Oasis crap that was going on that summer and Squeeze's song was just so unpretentious and full of innocence, hope and optimism to contrast with all that cocky, swaggering, up its own arse stuff. ![]() I've heard all their 70s and 80s stuff since, nice, but This Summer is still a special song for me.

I've seen Squeeze twice, both times they were excellent even though the set lists were very different. A very under rated British band.

I've been a Squeeze fan since the late 70's. I've seen them live several times (last time was a year ago) and have also been to some of Glenn's solo acoustic gigs as well as a gig he did with Chris Difford too, just the two of them. Glenn sings and plays guitar just as brilliantly as ever, imo. Difford and Tilbrook are two of Britain's best songwriters off all-time, I think.

![]() Leslie Mendelson, the current support act, plays keyboards and guitar. We were not even expecting to see a support act, but she won over the crowd and by the end of her set we thought we'd seen someone quite special. |

He did very well, and he has some good acts on Later. But wonder why he's never featured Tillbrook and/or Difford? Also, I must confess that I've always found Holland very irritating as a TV presenter, and his music outside of Squeeze deathly boring.

Search for "Untouchable" by Glenn Tilbrook on YouTube and there's a video of him playing it on Later...
